My stupidest crash - Oliveira - 18-08-2005

I've had my share of crashes since using FSP, mostly due to lack of practice and/or planes with a rather erratic behavior (I'm still trying a
lot of donwloaded planes, to figure out which are the best).

But I've just had my stupidest accident so far. Flying an embraer from an airport somewhere in Utah to Hobby in Houston, 37 passengers
aboard. After checking distance and weight, I figure about 70 % of fuel load would do it.

My mistake. By the time I get to Texas and start descending, there are only 9 % left in the tanks. I thought "OK, I'm gonna get a penalty for
insufficient reserves, and that's it". My mistake again, and all the way down to Hobby I'm watching the fuel level drop. I start praying
anxiously for not having a missed aproach or a go-around. As soon as I have runway 12R in sight, I notice it's now "0%". Oh God. 8 miles
from the runway, the engines shut down. Emergency declared, plane is bouncing up and down, speed rapidly dropping. Then it stalls. I
see a Southwest Boeing flying over me, on it's way to the runway. That's the last thing I see before crashing in some street in Houston.

I left my seat in a mix of sadness and fury for my stupid reckless fuel calculations.

The good thing is: I never thought Flight Simulator could be so thrilling.

At least you had a nice image in your mind before the crash!! (The Southwest 737 Smile)

LOL. I'm sure the pilot of the SW737 was thinking, "Ooohh, I bet that pilot's gonna have a headache in about 10 seconds. Hope he's got Tylenol
onboard!" as he was passing over Oliveira. Sick

Re: My stupidest crash - Plane Nuts - 18-08-2005

Nah, as he watched the other aircraft drop like a rock in front of him, he was thinking, "Sweet! Now I won't have to go around!"

Re: My stupidest crash - SwiftFoxLit - 18-08-2005

was it by any chance flight # SQ993? I checked the virtual airline demo and saw this flight that ended in a crash and looks just like this one (same
plane,same # of passengers,same penalties,same states).

Re: My stupidest crash - SaVas - 18-08-2005

Didnt have a leak in the fuel tank did you?

Re: My stupidest crash - Twista - 18-08-2005

Yea you sure you didnt have a fuel leak or something because I never seen a plane loss 10% of fuel in what 50nm-100nm distance and your descending
which means less throttle. Wonder

Re: My stupidest crash - SD_BFU - 18-08-2005

Man I had similar situation (miscalculation) a couple of times. Usually when realized I filed another flight plan while enroute, with shorter
distance.

Re: My stupidest crash - SD_BFU - 18-08-2005

I guess, pax were pissed off but it's better to be pissed off and alive then happy on the way to see St.Peter.....

Re: My stupidest crash - Oliveira - 18-08-2005

No, the flight report didn't mention anything about a fuel leak, and the fuel indicators were even for both tanks, which I guess rules out any
problem of that kind.

Perhaps the plane (an Embraer 135 from Dreamwings, I think) isn“t too accurately tuned when it comes to fuel consumption?...

And yes, it was flight SQ993.
