food serving penilty - Ricksr - 07-08-2009

Hi iam new to the forum this is my question i have? when i do a long flight right before landing i hear CAPTIN WE CANT SERVE FOOD
WHILE DESENDING TO OUR DESTINATION? i don"t touch any buttons when on arrival, why is this happening can you tell whats going
on Thanks Rick,sr

Just like the message says, you can't serve food while approaching/descending to the destination, no matter what buttons you push. You have to finish
serving food or drinks before you start descending.

That's actually not quite true. The cabin crew can continue serving food for as long as your cabin vertical speed doesn't exceed a certain amount and
is still above the safe minimum flight level/altitude - this is taken from the user guide (might be out of date - I don't have the latest one at hand
now):

Crew is able to serve up to a climb rate of 1800 ft/mn and at an altitude higher than 6000 ft.

It only mentions the climb part of a flight but it is very similar with descend part as well. See your user guide for updates...

On some flights where I'm caught by insufficient time for serving I reduce speed and descend rate a bit and it works for me like a charm Smile

David.

Thanks guys ididnt know what going on i was 500ft on desent when she said that Thanks guy

Re: food serving penilty - timtomairways - 07-08-2009

if you did not push any buttens make shure the auto service is turned off

acording to my companys policy on descent "all cabin services must be terminated when crowssing 15000ft"
this is to give the crew time to ready the cabin for arrival. but thats just my companys policy its diffrent depending on witch airline you work
for

mines completely different,

as well as im above 4000ft i can serve anything/play movies etcSmile and as far as i know its an ascent/descent rate greater than 2500feet
per min that they cant serve in.
