[SOLVED] FSX Crashes ONLY when FSPX flight is loaded - Jason - 30-03-2009
Ok I am at the end of my troubleshooting abilities, I need some help on this one. I've tried full screen, windowed mode, one monitor, two,
AA on, AA off, filtering on, filtering off, Vista Aero on, vista aero off... I have no idea what is causing this problem.
So I'm running Vista X64 with FSX w/ Acceleration pack. When I play FSX, it goes all day long, any mission, any flight, anywhere, any
graphics setting, anything.
But when I'm flying an FSPX flight the game crashes at random intervals. Sometimes on climb, sometimes on decent, sometimes at
cruise altitude.
The only thing in my App log is the event for fsx.exe being closed when I use task manager to end task.
Any direction I can take this next?

did you reinstall fspx? (I guess you did ,but you never know)
I had some trouble with sound files. I copied some from fsp2004 crewpacks and fspx didn't like that.
Also with the music collection I had some trouble, if I turned on the music for the pax everything went black on the screen. After I renamed
the music files to 1.wav , 2.wav (instead of <artist>_<song>.wav) everything was ok again.
so reinstall fspx
get the latest video driver for your system
get the latest sound driver for your system
get the latest chipset drivers for your system
And if it then still doesn't work.... reinstall your system and install fspx in a clean fsx. (that must work

I did reinstall FSPX, actually because I did a clean install of FSX without the accelleration pack (testing to see if that was the issue) and
then I in stalled FSPX. Well it still did not work so I went ahead and installed the accelleration pack but then FSPX gave me the wrong
authorization error so I had to reinstall FSPX.
I can tell you 100% that my video drivers are the latest... I'm on my wifes computer at the moment but they are like 180.82 or something.
Sound drivers are up todate too
Now chipset drivers... I will check that when I get home from work tonight, I don't know for sure where I'm at there.

hmm..maybe vista64 isn't working well anymore on your system.
If it al doesn't work, you can always try a OS reinstall (or even try windows 7 beta. I had it running with fsx and fspx).

Ok I just got home from work and was checking out my drivers. I did verify that my chipset drivers are up to date as well. I also already
reinstalled my OS, this was back in January though, but for this very reason actually. I do have windows 7 but I'm about finished with this.
I have had Symantec products perform better... (corporate email gateways to be specific, and those things are a huge PILE).

And you only have trouble with fspx and without it fsx runs ok? Very strange

Yup, I am at a complete loss. I'm running FSX as administrator, i've even tried to crash FSX without FSPX running, by using crazy
accelerated time and flying all silly, clicking on tons of buttons, opening tons of windows, using the map like 1000 times during a flight...
nothing, it works fine. I start an FSPX flight, be gentle and careful, crashes every time.
Are there any logs of use?

Hmm OK FSX hung today while I did not have FSPX running.
This is a good thing right? haha... well it is in 2 ways. First I can't rule out that FSPX is working correctly and it's FSX hanging, it could have
been that in my testing FSX just happened to not hang when FSPX was not being used. Also it opens up more troubleshooting options. I
have ruled out video drivers and all of that, so now the fsx config file and a few other things. I'm going to have to search for a bit i think.

I found a thread on the internet discussing the exact same problem I have been having and the guy had posted that he removed the read
only attribute on the entire FSX directory and that fixed his problem....
Here goes nothing. I will report back resuts.

Holy Crap,
It's fixed, i removed the read only attribute from the FSX directory and poof.. it works. First flight I got 94% satisfaction because of 40kt
winds here today.

Also I unchecked the light bloom or lens bloom, i forget the exact name of the setting, and I also gave my user account full access rights
to that directory.
Not sure what did it but the issue is fixed.
