Screen Lockups during FSpX report windows - jordanal - 29-12-2008

Hi all,
I'm really enjoying FSpX and all the new features and voices. Some of them crack me up, LOL...

Anyway, I am finding that the in-flight and end-flight report windows (not the status gauge mind you) is causing havoc with my FSX
screen refresh. When I bring up one of these reports, while I always have FSX in full-screen mode, the screen goes black and locks. I
can sometimes get it to refresh by doing a ctrl-alt-del -> cancel button or with a alt-enter keypress to switch between full-screen and
windowed-screen, but not always. It's almost as if the report window gets burried under the FSX full screen and the GPU driver can't
initialy display the FSpX window on top of FSX. I have tried FSpX in both modal and non-modal modes to no avail. No other add-on does
this to my FSX environment. I am a long-time FS enthusiest and build my own rigs and fluent in all configurations. I have a solid FSXsp2
dedicated rig with a 9800GTX GPU and the Nvidia 180.84 video drivers running Windows XP x64. Since the rig runs flawlessly with really
good FPS, I am really hesitant to change any drivers or configs to accomidate a newly installed add-on and it's associated issue.

My only thought at this point is perhaps the forcing vsync in the GPU driver config could be causing this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

I just realized I posted this in the "General" forum when in fact it may have been better served in the "support" forum. Mods, please move
if necessary; thanks...

Al,

Any issues when setting FSX to windowed mode? It sounds like you enjor running in full screen however I know some issues can be
resolved if you switch to windowed. You might just try it and report back.

Jeff,
Thanks for the reply. Yes, the hangs appear when transitioning <alt-enter> to or from Window and full-screen mode. The funny part is,
it now even does this when I'm not activily running a FSpX scenario. As if a FSpX gauge or a dll is bogging down the screen-refresh by
having simply been installed in my FSX path.

Since the gauge was not active in this latest case, I suspect a FSpX dll to be the issue since it would be active anytime FSX is running. Is there FSpX dll in the modules folder or something I can try moving out of the FSX path temporarily to see if it resolves the screen-refresh hang-ups? To scope the exact culprit?

BTW, as a follow-up to my OP, forcing v-sync to off in the GPU driver semmed to have no affect on the issue.

Thanks...

Re: Screen Lockups during FSpX report windows - jordanal - 05-01-2009

Just as a follow-up, I seemed to have had better luck with the FSpX windows yesterday by cleanly uninstalling the Nvidia 180.48 driver
and PhysX driver, running Driver cleaner in Windows safe mode, and reinstalling the same driver. I did elect to unistall the PhysX driver
as well this time around as I don't use it.

I was able to use my F1 Super 80 Pro without screen-locks when bringing up the report window or switching between full and window
modes in the FSX session. I don't know why this would have had affect because I just cleanly rebuilt this PC two weeks ago. My thinking
is that perhaps updating the DirectX Nov update or a security update after installing the GPU driver may have had an affect on the
previous, otherwise clean installation, the first time around.

Anyway, if you're having video/window issues with FSpX, try reinstalling the GPU driver.

Hello,
I can join the club with Al, I build my own rigs as well and have almost the identical issue. I however am using an ATI 4850 card. I also fly in full
screen mode. Since installing FSPX when the flight ends and the report comes up the screen goes black and totally locks up my system. I have had a few
successful flights but only a couple. I havent tried using a either a clean GPU driver or maybe an older version. I can say this, I was one the ones
who tested FSPX when it first came out and had zero problems. Then an update came out and it seems like thats where the problems began for me. Now,
that being said I have updated my ATI driver however I cant recall if the ATI driver was installed before or after I installed FSPX. I may try an
older ATI driver if I can find one and try that. BTW I have already tried a re-install of FSPX and have the same issue. Also I fly the Super 80 pro as
well, wonder if theres an issue there.

Mark

I can say that after trying a different ATI driver the problem is better but far from solved. As soon as I go to end my flight the screen flips out
it goes black and sometimes I cant recover it at all and my whole flight is wasted. I am out of ideas on this deal, hope it can be fixed soon I really
enjoyed FSPX when I was flying FS9 it was rock solid.

I've had the same issue. End of flight report window caused FSX (in full-screen mode) to go completely black. Alt+Enter, Ctrl+Alt+Del did
not help. Did not have this problem before installing FSPX.

Can you post your spec and FSX version (sp1,sp2, acceleration) ?

Does other report (flight map, kneeboard etc) do the same things ?

Much thanks

Dan

I am still noticing some issues with this even after reinstalling the GPU driver as mentioned above. The screen just does not refresh as
cleanly as it does without FSpX installed; regardless if FSpX is in a scenario or not.
