Gear damaged after a 'smooth' landing - Zeder - 26-02-2007

Hi,

Just after touch-down, my copilot says:" .. was a hard landing... hopeful gear is solid " (or something like that).

But flight report shows like that one:

Extreme weather conditions during approach, but a safe landing and satisfied passengers. (+100)

I surfed to the forum >> could it be, that I have to 'repair' my aircraft (B737-400) ?
If YES, how do it?

Re: Gear damaged after a 'smooth' landing - Canada_Boy - 26-02-2007

A safe landing isnt nessiceraly a smooth landing.Wink

It will show the damage beside the aircraft in the 'Aircraft maintenance' tab under Company manager section.

Yeah but your at the front what about the PAX at the back, they HIT the ground Smile

Re: Gear damaged after a 'smooth' landing - Launchbury - 26-02-2007

What is your rate of descent in FPM?

Re: Gear damaged after a 'smooth' landing - Zeder - 09-03-2007

Sorry for delay, was busy with AI-Traffic Wink

I guess, my rate of descent is approx. 300-500 ft/min at touchdown moment.

Re: Gear damaged after a 'smooth' landing - ste9889 - 09-03-2007

hahahaha, thats isnt a good landing if your touching down at -500ft/min that'll break a strut everytime, you wanna be touching down at at
east -300ft/min

Re: Gear damaged after a 'smooth' landing - Jambone - 09-03-2007

(cough) What would happen if you were to touch down at -1000 ft/m Smile (cough)

Ive done that more than once!

Re: Gear damaged after a 'smooth' landing - Serviceman - 09-03-2007

Flare! Flare!

You better hope this was a cargo only flight...or that the pax died already (from soemthing that wasn't your fault)...otherwise...ouch...that pilot's
probably gonna lose his license...(or at least, not gonna be outta negative points for awhile...)

Well at least I can say I have never done that before Big Grin

Re: Gear damaged after a 'smooth' landing - Zeder - 13-03-2007

Hi 'bad' guys Wink,

Could you give me the bandwith for descent rate please, instead to make such jokes Well

Re: Gear damaged after a 'smooth' landing - Buckfast - 13-03-2007

Try 0-300 as a bandwith. did a landing yesterday while fighting with taking screenshots, made a rough landing at 600ft/descent It was not
everyones liking i can tell you.

Re: Gear damaged after a 'smooth' landing - Iceland - 13-03-2007

600 ft/descent ????OUCH.If you dont flare and just keep on descending this will happen. You just slam the aircraft on to the ground. If you
are flying a F18 and trying to land on a sea carrier,ok.The F 18 are built to take that beating and thats why it´s called a controled crash
landing. You can descend at 500 ft buth the key is v/ref speed and FLARE.FLARE.FLARE.v/Ref speed is the speed used to slow the
Aircraft down to best manowering speed with flap and landing gear extended in landing configuration. If the v/ref is 150 kt with 30 degrees
flap you must bee on that speed at 1- 0.8 mile before the treshold and when you are pasing the treshold engine idle and start a gently
FLARE.2-3 degrees are enough. The speed wil then decrease rapidly and the aircraft gently sink onto the Runway.Just a wery gently flare
otherwise you can glide most of the Runnway or do a complete stall and THAT is a killer for shure.

Re: Gear damaged after a 'smooth' landing - Propilot23k - 20-03-2007

You guys are freaking Crazy LOL. Anywhere from -300 to 0 fpm is good for a commercial airliner landing.I usually get around -150fpm
and if I hold her off good enough Ill get lower than -100fpm.
