Am I really that bad?? - eazy - 02-08-2005

My small company owns a Dash800 and a CitationX. When landing the Dash I have almost always nice or kiss landings. With the
Citation this happens rarely. I tried hard but most landings are VS between -250 and -400 ft.

Recently I got me FS Flight Keeper which is a nice addon too cause it records every little step you make, like a virtual black box. Now, my
last landing at Glasgow was, as I thought, not that bad at all. However, FsP told me that with -430ft VS it was rather rough, whereas FSFK
gave me thumbs up with -24ft at touch down and flight critique Landing: greased...

Question to Dan: Are there any differences in how the VS at touch down is or can be measured in FS?

I think FFK is wrong in that case... -24FPS seem very hard to achieve I never had such landing rate...
I think FFK recorded your "bump" not the first touch. FsP record the first touch of weel...

I always seem to bounce my CitationX on landing. Seems like as soon as you cut the throttle, the thing just sinks real fast.

Aye, takes practice. I usually grease the Citation X landings (-250 or less), but only after getting in touch witht he aircraft. Treat your aircraft
like you treat your women, with care. You have to know when to push and when to pull, when to be fast, and when to be slow.

No truer advice was ever spoken...this goes for all a/c worth their weight.

Thanks Dan and all! I'm afraid it's true that it was the bump recorded in FK.
But I'll keep trying. Women and aircraft !! ...

Just keep a bit of power then... use a little less after each landing and in no time, you'll be greasing at idle.

I also use FSKeeper and there is always a difference with the VSI rate upon touchdown compared to FsPassengers. However, with a
little practice, I no longer bump my landing (mostly) thus the difference is tiny (maybe -20 or -30) . I have attained a touchdown of -16.4 in
FSPassengers and in FSKeeper it gave me -21.2 (for the same landing) whilst flying a C130 Hercules into Brize Norton, UK.

Cheers for the advice on women: now I know where I am going wrong!

Re: Am I really that bad?? - pegase - 03-08-2005

May be the difference (in opposite direction for Citation and C130) could come from a different apreciation of the touchdown time? When I look the
extarnal views I can see planes looking a bit floating above the ground while some others sim to be in a thick layer of mud .

I don't know FS Feeper. but I must admit that the FSPassenger verdict follows quite nearly my own feeling of the landings. Off course I am sometimes
disapointed because what I felt a kiss landing was in fact a just nice landing. But when I got an hard landing result , I know before checking the
flight log that id not land that well. Even if, taxiing my way to the gate I hope it will be considered as "acceptable".

But, Well , fore the sake of our passenger's bottoms, better to have a too strict than too cool apreciation

From my experience FSP records your INITIAL touchdown rate... this is your first touchdown... any more (bounces) are not counted.

hehe, just needed the right challenge ..! Did a "nice" Citation landing (-193ft), and it was an emergency landing at Vicenza, Italy, with lots
of mountains and foggy weather on a back course approach which I did entirely manual. I just love FSP! Speaking with Forrest Gump:
You never know what you get... Wink
