Flaps on takeoff? Cessna sounds like a jet? - MikeW - 30-03-2006

I'm getting penalized for not setting flaps on takeoff. Even in a Cessna 172 (which is really all I can realibly fly right now) I went through
all the flying lessons and he didn't say anything about setting flaps for takeoff. From what I understand some flaps can be used on
takeoff if you have a short runway I thought.

Also when flying my Cessna and on the cockpit view I hear 2 engine sounds - the original Cessna engine I'm used to but I also hear the
jet engine sound. If I switch to spot plane view I only hear the Cessna. Is there any way to fix this?

1) You can disable penalties in the file more_option.cfg. Just open the file with an ASCII text editor.

2) There are extra sounds added, most of which favor jet air transports, since this was envisioned to be the primary aircraft type to be used. There
are volume settings for the different sounds in the FS Passenger menus.

Also, please check the FAQs on this website, and access the Help in the appcation.

Best of luck with all your flying! Top

Ok thanks. I really don't want to disable penalties, I want to do it the right way. Is it normal to take off with some flaps up in real flight?

There are some planes without flaps altogether, and some which although they have flaps, don't need them for takeoff. I actually don't remember if the
172 is OK to take off without flaps or not; I don't think you necessarily need them.

The penalities were meant to be disabled for situations when keeping them in would be unrealistic.

in real life, you do not need flaps in a 172 to take off.. dont need em to land either, really.
