Landing - shant592 - 15-01-2006

I have a question, Im having some trouble on landing. I feel l ike i do land perfectly and i do follow all cheklists and manuals but i always
get scorched at by FsPassenger.

Re: Landing - Drew - 15-01-2006

can you expand on 'scorched'??

maybe post a report or tell us what you are getting penilised for

Re: Landing - shant592 - 15-01-2006

I land softly and i mena. It always says i have a hard landing and i bent thegear. Even though my landing speed is about 145-150 kias
and my G's are only 1.0. Any tips

Re: Landing - Drew - 15-01-2006

in the report, what does it say your touchdown is (eg Landing Touchdown: -140.8 ft/m (kiss))? this is what decides if it is a heavy
landing or not.

I dont recall the exact amount, but i think its somewhere around 600+ will result in bent gear.

Re: Landing - shant592 - 15-01-2006

its around like - 200 i think

Re: Landing - shant592 - 15-01-2006

But i dont know what to do. Ive done the flight training. Follow all manuals. Slow down to projjected speed and dont flare till about 10'
above the runway.

Re: Landing - Drew - 15-01-2006

if its around 200, it shouldnt bend the gear on landing - does it say anything about running off the runway? are you using any default
scenary?

can you post a report?

if you go to start>program?fspassengers>open fsp folder - you will see your last report is available there

(moving the thread to support)

Re: Landing - Dutch64 - 15-01-2006

Hi shant, as your report shows your landing touchdown speed is indeed very high, close to 900 ft/m. (your vertical speed),
you should try to get that
under 600 ft/m. Before landing, lift the nose a bit, make sure you're not too high just before touchdown so that you don't
need to sink too hard etc.
It will take some practice of course but it can be done Wink

Re: Landing - Lt. Grullon - 15-01-2006

Yeah thats pretty hard if I was a passenger on one of your flights. Try to be at 3,000ft when you are about 10 miles away from your airport,
but that will depend on a lot of factors, equipment type, weathers, and your current landing weight. And by now you should have a decent
rate close to or from 200-500ft.

Re: Landing - Lt. Grullon - 15-01-2006

Oh and you will find more helpfull information on landings on this forum..........tittle
Where is a good source to get takeoff/landing speeds and flap settings?

Re: Landing - Stentor - 16-01-2006

119 knots seems a bit slow for that plane, is it? I would guess that 140 knots would be closer, you must have been close to a stall and
losing alt quickly. Just a guess, I have not flown a 757 (V) for a very long time

Re: Landing - WBHoenig - 16-01-2006

I'd think about 130-160 for a 757. You probably did a perfect approach, but fell like a rock at the end because you were too slow. 900 fpm is
extremely hard.

Re: Landing - AKLupine - 16-01-2006

Over the years I have noted that most large aircraft maintain 120-140 (scopes only show the 12-14 so it could be 120 or 129,) on final inside the FAF
to touchdown. We also on occasion conduct what is called an ASR approach which is like a radar guided LOC approach without the LOC. In any case, we
try to match up with a 3* descent which works out to about 300 feet per mile. If you figure that you're travelling a little over 2 miles per minute
you can pick a point on the approach, do the math, and plot out where you need to start your descent with a rate of 700 fpm. I did this today
actually when I was assigned a VIS approach into KBOI RY28L. Looking in my approach plates I saw that 28L has a BC approach and thought why not try
this. I used the BC function on the autopilot and programmed the altitude hold to lvl out 200' agl, (3100 msl.) It would have worked perfectly if I
hadn't of started down a mile late. As it was, I landed long but didn't have to go around. FYI: I was flying a Boeing 733 on this flight. Give this
a go, I think you'll find it works well, just remember to give yourself the 1-200 foot buffer to lvl out, flair and touchdown. Beer

Re: Landing - olseric - 16-01-2006

Agreed...way too slow which in turn caused a high rate of descent. Also, your pitch was too high to flare this thing out at all in an attempt
to correct it.

As previously stated, the 757 should be touching down in the 130-140 kias area.
