Getting shot and fuel penalty - Kaveman - 22-11-2005

Hi!
The other day, I was flying tourists across africa, we were half way to our destination, the Sahara Desert, when suddenly shot's were fired
and my A36 was hit. Looking at the panel all instruments were working, engine was ok, but my left fuel tank was it. So I gave the bad
news to my passengers, they were a bit upset but given the circunstances they took it well Wink. Then I proceeded to declare an emergency
and set the transponder accordingly.
After finding the nearest runway wich is not easy in this part of the world, and lining up, we got shot again, this time some instruments
failed and my other fuel tank was hit. But because I played a lot of Operation Flashpoint and military flightsims the reflexes kicked in and I
started to zig-zag the plane trying to be a harder target to hit Big Grin. Anyway lined up again with the runway, and landed a bit fast
because fuel was disapearing very fast.
When the plane stoped and the passengers started exiting the plane, the engine stoped due to lack of fuel Rolleyes yes it was a close call
but all was well or so I thought. Reviewing the flight record, much to my surprise I got a penalty for not having enough fuel wow! No S***
Einstein!Rant I was not planning on getting shot and I had no bubblegum left to repair the holes in the tanks.

Is there something else i needed to do in order to not get penalized? Did I do something wrong? Is a problem with FSP?
I really need to know, I still haven't reached my destination and if this happens again I'm afraid I'll be demoted to C0 Cry

King Regards
Kaveman

Its a penalization that is hard to work around. If both your tanks get shot and are emptying, find the closest airstrip or clearing you can
safely land at, and get that plane down. If your tanks arent hit and you have an engine (enough power to keep airborn, find an airstrip, or if
only one tank is hit and you have enough fuel to get to the closest strip. If not use the clearing method and land on the ground. its better to
land safely than to run out of fuel.

I think the fuel penalty will need some serious revision if another update is made to the program. You get it when shot up in a warzone, as well as
when you get an ATC imposed landing delay (this is exactly what the fuel margin is for, yet you get penalized for making use of it).

I think FSP should make a fuel level check when you're within xx miles of your destination instead of at landing, so if ATC delays your landing,
you're not penalized for using your ATC margin; obviously if you get a fuel leak in a warzone the penalty shouldn't apply.

Well I was unlucky, had I shutdown the engine sooner, the penalty would have been avoided. Well... at least i got to hear the passengers
applauding for the first time Applause

Yes, I agree very much with what you said. It shouldn´t be too dificult to solve the getting shot and getting penalized problem. I think all is
needed is another IF... THEN... ELSE condition were if fuel is over, check to see if aircraft got shot in the tanks (I don't know a thing about
programing so excuse me if i'm waaay wrong). And using the reserve for what is for, going around, really shouldn't penalize the pilot.
Anyway, thanks I now know that I must land ASAP anyware so I won't get the dreaded fuel penalty.

Re: Getting shot and fuel penalty - SWAFO - 22-11-2005

Perhaps Dan could implement a trigger that if shot, or damaged in any way while flying in a warzone, the fuel penalty is automatically
removed. As for dipping into reserves when holding/diverting, etc. that's a little more tricky. As I mentioned in my "Attendant call button"
thread (about notifying PAX/attendants of a late arrival, and having the resulting penalty on PAX satisfaction being lessened, but not
completely removed), perhaps this feature could be implemented and feature removing the fuel reserve penalty completely. Sorry if that
sounds a bit confusing... difficult to put into words.

Thanks for submitting, added in my "todo" notepad...

How do you plan on implementing the change Dan? I'd just like to get an idea of what's going to be changed. Do you just plan on
removing the fuel penalty when shot at? Do you plan on altering the late arrival/fuel penalty issue as well?
