FsPassengers doesn't like Vintage Airplanes ? - Mickey38 - 07-09-2005

Hi !
I love FsPassengers. I love vintage airplanes too. So I've decided to create my VA using only old aircraft : Stinson Reliant, Travel Air, Piper J3,
Curtiss Jenny, these ones for small flights ; DH89 Dragon Rapide, Constellation, Monomail 221A, Beechcraft D18S, for long distance flights.
But I have some problems. Some aircrafts don't have any flaps, or nav lights. And my VA always receive some penalties after the flights because FsP
considers i forgot to think of the lights or flaps. I put "1" in the file "more_config.cfg" in front of "DisableFlapCheck" line, so i can't receive
now the penalty for the flaps but I think it's a cheat.
I can't resolve the problem of the lights. Somenone would know ?

You can disable some penalties by editing the file more_option.cfg in the "more_option.cfg" ...fspassengers\config folder. Unfortunately, I don't
think you can disable the flaps penalty, but I know you can disable the lights penalties. I think there was a fix that went in to automatically no
longer apply flaps penalties to aircraft without flaps. Read the FAQs and release notes. To get the fix in for the flaps penalty, be sure to download the latest version of the program.

The airplanes that don't have any flaps shouldn't be penalized with the flap penalty that aircraft that do have flaps receive (this was
addressed in the latest update). Are you running an up to date version of FSP?

There is still a minor problem with the flaps penalty if, like me, you fly a DC-3. The problem is that flaps are not (usually) used for take off,
but are always used for landing. Consequently I have to use the "cheat" of putting "1" in the file "more_config.cfg" in front of
the "DisableFlapCheck" line.

Is there a possibility that in some future upgrade it would be possible to distinguish between take-off flap and landing flap usage?

As I said, not a big problem in what must be one of the very best add ons for Flight Sim.

Tim

Thanks for the replies.
My version of FsP is : 02 september 2005
As I said, I've changed this in the more_config.cfg file :
DisableFlapCheck =1; // disable flap not set penalty otherwise I have all the time the penalty for the flaps (I change to 0 when the planes have flaps !)

Ho I see there is a new version : 05 september 2005. I'll check this version.

there is a problem with Fs9 let me explain, since 02 09 version FsP use a FS9 function
something like "does this aircraft have flaps?" the problem we saw with at least
the ford trimotor is that it have a strange flap section:

[Flaps.0]
type= 0
span-outboard= 0.5
extending-time= 0.0
system_type= 0
flaps-position.0= 0.0, 0.0
flaps-position.1= 0.0, 0.0

You can't move them, you can't use them but still the Fs9 function return that "this aircraft have flap"
if I remove those lines above from the aircraft.cfg the function return "no flaps" as it should.

So it seem the here an inconsistency in Fs9 about aircraft that have no flaps, I tried some workaround
but ALL fs9 function related to flaps return "yes flaps" even you can't move them...

The solution is either to be sure to remove the "flaps" section in the aircraft.cfg either to
disable this penalty in more_option.cfg

About ligths you may disable this penalty in the setup dialog, most problem arrive because the button on panel
are fake or because they do two action (light strob and beacon in same time) or because you miss a button
(beacon)

Hope it explain ?

Dan

Thanks a lot Dan, I'll try this

I havent had a problem at all and until last night Ive used only vintage planes, however even if in real life a plane doesnt use flaps, I tend
to use them in the sim because the sim isnt real life and planes tend to react better when I use them

Flaps do make life a lot easier. How many of you have landed a F/A-18 with dead flaps?

Re: FsPassengers doesn't like Vintage Airplanes ? - Leftcoaster - 08-09-2005

Because of the parking brake trigger FsP is not compatable with the big Thirties' flying boats either. I added a parking brake to the .Air file
for Jen Kristensen's outstanding Short C Class and while it worked, modifiying such an excellent model like that felt like drawing a
moustache on the Mona Lisa with a felt marker. I restored the original and decided not to use FsP for flying boats unless or until the
parking brake switch is changed. Any advise on how to use brakeless aircraft with FsP would be most welcome, I found nothing of use
in the supplied documentation as did a search of the forum but will admit that I might have missed something.
Cheers

Does a Beech Bonanza count in the Sim Brad?
