Transponder penalty - Dan M - 30-08-2005 Hi, I just had a window crack at 31000 ft on a flight from KSAN to KATL. I started my decent, declared an emergency and changed my transponder code to 7700. I know that this has been discussed in the past. The problem is, when you change codes ATC will cancel your flight plan.In this case I chose to go to Miramar because they have a ILS on 24R and the weather was almost zero zero visability. In doing this I had to change codes again for ATC. After landing safely and getting 95% from the passangers, I had a penatly of 300 points, 750-300=450. What I would suggest is When you declare an emergency and squawk 7700, even if you have to change it back one time should do it. If that is possibe. Just a thought, Dan Re: Transponder penalty - SWAFO - 30-08-2005 The only option when squawking 7700 (or another non-normal xpdr code) is to cancel your IFR flight plan with ATC. This is not very realistic, however ATC doesn't currently allow for emergencies to be declared. Because of this fact, some realism must be sacrificed, so cancelling your flight plan is ok IMHO. Re: Transponder penalty - eazy - 30-08-2005 It's ok to do it the way you did. Just squawk 7700 on final, immediately after having confirmed the landing clearance. This should work. Re: Transponder penalty - Dan M - 30-08-2005 Hi guys, Thanks for the suggestions, On my very next flight same day same aircraft and same flight plan I had my left engine flame out. So I got nailed for another 300 points 1000-300=700. I guess this just isn't my day. Thanks again, Dan Re: Transponder penalty - scandahl - 31-08-2005 I hope Microsoft will implement the abillity for ATC to declare emergencies. After all, emergencies should be a (big?) part of flight simulation IMHO. Regards, David Re: Transponder penalty - pagir - 31-08-2005 I've seen on the forum two ways to resolve the problem: 1. Change your flight plan when the emergency occurs for the new airport but Squawk 7700 during the final. Pro: you'll get ATC until the end. Con: the transponder change should be done when the emergency occurs in reality. The AI planes might interfere with your landing. 2. Cancel your flightplan and Squawk 7700 when the emergency occurs. Then, remove all AI planes (Traffic, then Air Traffic density to 0). Pro: You are making the transponder change at the right time. Con: You're on your own for landing and in reality planes don't disappear like this. But the AI planes won't bother you on landing.
