Cancel a mayday?? - chriskeev - 19-08-2005 Just accidently called a mayday trying to do something else - is there a way to 'cancel' it without any effect?? Re: Cancel a mayday?? - lightrail - 19-08-2005 Radio the controler and tell them - Oh, so sorry, no problem - hit the wrong squawk code. Sort of like Virgin Atlantic learning that accidentally squawking 7500 leads to being turned away from US airscape and a pair of Canadian fighter jets escorting you down to the runway. Re: Cancel a mayday?? - SWAFO - 20-08-2005 NO! This has been discussed previously. Basically, we came to this conclusion: If you accidentally declare a mayday, or for some reason need to cancel the mayday after it's been declared, it's TOO late! You've already got everyone worried, and panicking, and if you were to cancel it afterwards, you'd still be in a world of trouble. During a real life non-normal/possible emergency situation, we verify that what we're facing is a definite issue that requires radioing the appropriate emergency/distress message. In no case should you declare an emergency if you're not 100% POSITIVE that an emergency exists that requires a radio call. This is one mistake we can't afford to make. Especially now (post 9/11)... you're royaly screwed if you change your mind on an emergency situation! So in short, no a mayday can't be cancelled. Once it's declared, you're commited to the appropriate emergency procedures. If you find yourself accidentally "bumping" the keys (kind of hard, considering you'd "accidentally" have to bump the CTRL key, SHIFT key, and M key all at the same time) ![]() ![]() Post Edited ( 08-20-05 01:02 ) Re: Cancel a mayday?? - Navymmw - 20-10-2005 what happened to the virgin atlantic plane? Re: Cancel a mayday?? - tangoecho - 20-10-2005 I did that by mistake, (Ctrl-shift-M) thinking it was the movie.
