flight time calculator - charlesed - 25-07-2005

Hello

For getting points i try to calculate my flight time but i never make it yet. Why does is not any way to calculate it in FS PASSENGERS, or
does any one have any idea how to calculate my flight time?

Thank"s for the answers

Because FSP has no way of knowing at what speed you will travel. That's dependent on the plane, the power/mixture settings, your altitude, your climb
rate&speed etc.

For me doing some research on the web, finding out the regular cruise speed of the plane and then dividing route length by cruise speed gave good
results in most cases. You have to test it out a bit, so do some flights where you don't set an arrival time in FSP to find out if your calculations
are working.

If all goes wrong, fly some routes and take the time. Then calculate the average speed you were traveling at for each route and calculate an average
of all those speeds. Should give you a realistic idea about your planes average cruise speed specifically for your style of flying.

To calculate flight time, you can always visit airline's websites. I use http://www.southwest.com to get flight schedules, and then fly with these
in FS2004. Also, it depends what type of aircraft your flying. Obviously, a 300 NM flight in a 737 is going to be shorter than a 300NM flight
in a C172.

Hi,

well, I use the FS internal Flightplanner. It tells you a relative accurate time and I always add 20 minutes minimum (it depends on winds, airport
size etc.). When I'm in the air, I slow down, if I arrive too early and this way I arrived nearly always in the bonus range, just the Learjet works a
little bit against me ;-) And plus I save fuel!

Greetings

One of the most accurate flight planners I have found is on the AOPA website. You have to join AOPA to download and use it, but it's
worth it to join AOPA if you are even remotely interested in flying. I think they offer a free trial where you can download and use the flight
planner right away for a few months.

You have to set it up for your particular aircraft, but once you do it is pretty doggone accurate. Just add the gate and ground time and you'll
be pretty close if you fly at normal speeds. Keep in mind that it doesn't account for winds, so if you are expecting particularly stiff winds in
either direction, you might want to adjust by a few minutes.

Keep flying!

Looks interesting. Does it cover the whole world or just the US?

I'm glad you asked that, since I primarily fly in the U.S., I never tried it elsewhere. I just started it up and it appears that it only covers the
US, Canada, and Mexico. Oh well, I know that rules it out for a lot of folks.

Pity, but no surprise it being an AOPA-Tool. Smile

Re: flight time calculator - smartboy4 - 27-07-2005

Search ICAO calculator or something on google.

I searched and found one thats very good. You key in origin and destination ICAOs and air speed.
They will give you an estimated flight time, you should add like 15mins to it.

I'll find you the site when i get home, in school now.

Re: flight time calculator - nem - 27-07-2005

If you already use a flightplanner which gives you the distance, you can do the rest of the calculation (simple division) with about any calculator.
Or even with pen and paper. Smile

On that subject, does anyone know a site which will let you search for ICAO codes and give you the distance between two airports?

Yep, that's what i was mentioning in my previous post.
