Emergency? - firebug - 22-07-2005

I was flying from EHEH to EGSS under VFR rules. When I asked permission to land at EGSS, this was denied because landing was only possible under IFR
rules. This was correct because of the current ceiling.

Now I had to land at another airport. I choose Nortfolk AB because this was one of the closest where I could land VFR. When I landed and ended the
flight, the flighreport told me I had to declare an emergency. Is this correct???

Re: Emergency? - smartboy4 - 22-07-2005

lol FsP does not include this feature for recognising it's only unable to land due to weather conditions.

I guess you have to declare an emergency then Hunappy

Re: Emergency? - firebug - 22-07-2005

I know the IFR/VFR decision is made by FS2k4, but I dont understand why I have to declare an emergency when I have to land somewhere else...

Re: Emergency? - smartboy4 - 22-07-2005

as i 'said', FsP doesn't recognise this Hunappy

you should have done IFR then.

Re: Emergency? - firebug - 22-07-2005

Not all aircraft are allowed to fly IFR... depends on aircraft and airport if im not mistaken...

Re: Emergency? - jboweruk - 22-07-2005

In FS you can request IFR in any plane, so that is your best bet. When an airport tells you it's under IFR only contact the centre and
request IFR flight plan to that airport, they will vector you around 60 miles away (cos they forget your only a Cessna) then put you in on an
IFR approach to your selected airport, ILS if it has one on that runway, visual if not but still under IFR rules. Very few planes now are
incapable of some kind of IFR operation, even C172's have the ability.

Re: Emergency? - firebug - 22-07-2005

Ok John, will try that next time.. but still the question, if I dont file an IFR plan and I have to land somewhere else, why do I have to declare an
emergency?

Re: Emergency? - Ryanamur - 22-07-2005

You don't have to declare an emergency. In fact, if you do, you will get a double penalty (false emergency and landing at the wrong airport)... FsP
cannot detect if you are cleared VFR or IFR or if you switch between the two during flight.

In FSP, you only declare an emergency for a failure CAUSED by FsPassengers.

Re: Emergency? - DanSteph - 22-07-2005

if FsP penalised you for not declaring an emergency the report must state a failure
somewere (fuel leak or something else)

FsP do not penalise for IFR VFR stuff...

Ok... Is there a way of finding the reason why I had to declare an emergency, coz I dont know what the reason is... Maybe for the next update it would
be cool to state why an emergency had to be declared?

Re: Emergency? - smartboy4 - 23-07-2005

There is, i think you right click on the small FsP thing and click on something, err i really can't remember. Explore youself.

but for using that 'cheating' way to find out what's the problem, you can points deducted even though you can land safely.

99% percent of the time, the co-pilot is going to anounce that you have a problem. There are some exceptions (like a gradual increase in oil
pressure/temperature) but when the co-pilot announces it, it's an indication that you must declare an emergency.

PS: the co-pilot will anounce the engine failure if you don't spot the oil temp increase!

Re: Emergency? - martinbc - 04-08-2005

ok...even if I declare and emergency.....the ATC keeps asking me to change the my ID back , instead of recognising the 7700 code....anyway to fix that?

Re: Emergency? - SE-TMA - 04-08-2005

I think that has been discussed elsewhere. Use the search feature for "7700" or something, and you'll find it.

Re: Emergency? - jlc - 05-08-2005

I had the same problem than Firebug (VFR forbidden because of bad weather) and I tried to request a IFR flightplan => FS crahed just before landing
after 3 hours of flight Grrr
Nothing special at he end of my log.txt :
"Menu Selected 5155
Pausing FsPassengers adventure".
Next time with bad weather => IFR only...
