[Solved] Frame rate down the tube.... - savage - 08-07-2005

Hi,

I have a AMD 64 3.7GHz, 1.5GB Ram, ATI Radeon 9600XP... Needless to say, I had a extremely good flight sim
experience... Used
multiple PCs using WideFS, and well yea, I had absolutely no problem what so ever...

I have now installed, and baught FS Passengers, and well yes. The moment I start a flight, my frame rate (which
used to be well over
40), hardly ever goes above 10... Normally it is stuck arround 6fps ?????

What gives?

Re: Frame rate down the tube.... - DanSteph - 08-07-2005

there is a section on the doc about that, the responsible of that is the mini display
strangely the problem appear only on somes machines (I lost about 1FPS but some
tester had the same problem than you)
The problem doesn't come from FsP code (it take less than 1 microsecond I checked)
but the way your hardware display the mini display window

you have two solution:

1-you can toggle mini-display on and off to gather information only when needed (CTL+SHT+V).
2-you can disable the mini-display and only use the in-flight report.(CTL-SHF-I for in-gflight report)
(CTL+SHF+C or by menu or by right click menu on mini display to disable it)
The mini-display is not an absolute necessity. You can still fly and enjoy FsP without it.
(real pilot don't have such a display)

I tried to solve this problem as said but it's not FsP code that cause problem it's more
hardware/driver related.

Hope it help ?

Dan

Re: Frame rate down the tube.... - savage - 08-07-2005

Hi Dan,

Even with the mini display hidden, I'm still down to 5fps. It jumps constantly, 35, 5, 25, 6, etc etc etc... About every second.

Regards,
Chris.

Re: Frame rate down the tube.... - DanSteph - 08-07-2005

mhhhh that's strange.... no one ever reported such problem
also on my old crappy computer it take about 0.5fps only....

does it happen only when you have a FsP flight started or always ?

Can you send me the log.txt located in Fs2004/FsPassengers's folder ?
(click on my name in blue to have the e-mail)

Also does it happen when you have a voice's text diplsayed on screen ?

the more you tell me the more I'll be able to track/give a solution

Dan

Re: Frame rate down the tube.... - savage - 08-07-2005

It starts the moment I start the FsP Flight....

Everything running:
FS9 + FsP (Same PC), Stanard scenery, with a PSS A330-200 plane...

Via WideFX / FSUIPC:
FSRealTime
ASV / Active Weather (Newest Version)

What I did notice, normally, running FS9, my CPU usage would constantly be < 95%. Running with FsP, my CPU utilisation is a mere
40% to 60%. Could it be that FsP is limiting something in regards to resources???

Will mail the log just now...

Re: Frame rate down the tube.... - DanSteph - 08-07-2005

No, FsP use standard things it doesn't limit anything...
see to be computer related anyway don't worry
I'll search until I find a solution...

So first things to do:

go into Fs2004 folder then FsPassengers/config

edit the "more_option.cfg" that is there wit notepad...

try to set the value "MainLoopDelay" to various value as below:

MainLoopDelay =25;

try a flight

MainLoopDelay=50;

try another one

MainLoopDelay=150;

etc etc

until 200

Let's see if something move....

Re: Frame rate down the tube.... - savage - 08-07-2005

Hi Dan,

It seems like it was just 'one of those things'. Restarted FS (to make the changes above, I'm on 25 now).... It is fine. Lowest fps I'm
getting is 25, which is pretty damm close to what it was...

Thanks,
Chris.

Re: Frame rate down the tube.... - bushsimmer - 08-07-2005

savage,
i have a big suggestion for ya, if this isnt your usual way of doing things system-wise.
DEFRAG your system after substantial installs.
you wont believe how much that clears everything up and gets the system working smoothly. a system that has had a few installs & no
recent defragmentation will definitely slow stuff down, no matter how fast your cpu or how much RAM you have it.
even the greatest lamborghini needs a tune-up.
just a suggestion.

by the way, i tested this program on a low-end fs machine (1.8Ghz, 756MB Ram, ti4600 vid, 40GB HDD). i got no to minimal framerate
issues, even with a pmdg virtual cockpit into such a frame-hog airport as simflyers klax. BUT, i defrag my system after i feed it with a
couple of new installs. good to defrag your virtual memory, too. there are proggies that do all that.

Re: [Solved] Frame rate down the tube.... - savage - 08-07-2005

Hehe, it's a brand new system to be honest (not even a week old yet)... Over 500GB in RAID Storage, a 34MB FsP install won't fragment
that array Smile

Obviously something was just not playing along with me... Perhaps it was because I reged my FsP and went about using it without
restarting FS9... That's about the only 'semi strange' thing that I could think of that I did.
