My first impressions - Osqar - 04-04-2013 After a many, many takeoffs from KSFO, checking and enjoying the FSPassengers, I would like to point few things ![]() 1) Well done! That's a really awesome add-on ![]() ![]() 2) Time scheduling: Well, I don't get it sometimes. The way the FSP treats the time scheduling is not realistic. Why? So many times, people are totally "I don't care" when they are early. Or sometimes even upset! For example, few times, I was on the ground about 7-8 minutes before my ETA. I had a choice of going strictly to the gate, or taxiing around the airport for few minutes to get some additional points for beeing exactly on time. Usually, people are happy if they came earlier then scheduled - they dont have to rush, have a lot of time to collect their baggages, maybe check the Duty-Free shop in the airport or whatever. So why the heck I'm punished because suddenly I got a tremendous tailwind in the middle of the cruise flight? That's kinda stupid :/ I know, that it must be done someway, to avoid setting all block time for 24 hours and then beeing always ahaed of schedule, but come on... That's not a good idea... It could be improved... 3) FSP vs FSRealWX As we know, the default FSX Real Wether sux. So I personally use the FSRealWX (the difference between that, and ActiveSky or whatever else, isnt wort the difference between freeware and payware price). And as for now, as we have very tricky "spring" sometimes it's not possible to land on some airports with the real weather settings. So if during first approach, I can't see a ****, I'm declaring missed approach, and depending on how much I was missing to call "Land" at minimums, I go for another approach, or divert... And come on... If people during approach would see this conditions, they really would not be happy to risk again, and would prefer to divert... But not in FSP. Current point system, encourages You to take another, maybe even bigger risk, and land on the destination airport, cause You have millions of bonus points for landing in extreme conditions... That's not realistic... If the weather is really bad, people are usually OK with the divertion... Maybe they will not be happy (no bonus points) but they will also not angry, because You ensured their safety (so no negative points) And I think that should be changed. 4) Missed approach / Fuel leak vs fuel reserves Once again, let's go back to the extreme wheather conditions. You calculate the fuel for the scheduled flight. Climb, cruise one approach, and land. Done. The reserve fuel is considered for some unexpected events. So imagine the situation I had yesterday. I guess it was Dallas Fort Int or whatever (too bad I can't fly in Europe :D ). First - missed approach (couldn't see a **** at the 200ft AGP...), long, long go- around (with a lot of fuel used for climb back at full throttle etc), then lined up by ATC after some ai controlled boeing. Going for final, and about 5 nm to the airport, ATC called me to go around again (i guess boeing was stucked on runway or sth like this - couldn't see a ****...). And then, at 3rd approach, I reduced decision height to 150ft (!), finally spot the runway threshold, and kissed the ground (remember what I was talking about current bonus points system?) and landed. I ended the flight, and in that moment I wanted to smash my laptop into the wall and uninstall FSP >.< I was just pissed off, that after that very demanding half an hour, fighting against the mother nature, I made perfect landing, and ended with like -400 points, because I HAD NOT ENOUGH FUEL RESERVES... Of course I hadn't. I was flying on go-arounds for 25 minutes! Of course If it was my destination airport, and I reported one missed approach, and was asked to do 2nd, I will not have classic amount of fuel reserves. I had big reserve (still for 15 minutes after landing) but I had to use it! That should be fixed... Seriously... 5) Emergency Yes, I had a lot of stuff going on during testing the FSP ![]() ![]() And one thing was quite interesting ![]() ![]() Imagine that You got an engine failure during descent. No more space to re-calculate descent rate, and use some gliding. You are already coming closer and closer to the ground, and suddenly You lost 50% of Your power. What can You do? Let's call an Emergency, and land at any airport we have in range. Let's choose one of them, and ask ATC for vectors and clearance... And... Ehm... Yeah... Why the hell You are sending as for a circle to land if You know that we can't make it? :P That in the middle of the circle we will be already at 500ft above the ground level, and we will all die? :P But I guess, its not possible for any add-on to force FSX tower controllers set to "Get us to the ground ASAP!!!!" mode ![]() But still, worth to mention ![]() 6) Number of Pax at the gate. It's way, way to strict. Especially, when You are flying with some small planes (like LearJet 45). No matter what. I had standard, start reputation - there was 6 people waiting... Now I have like 90% - and it's still 6 people waiting... On every single fight I took... It was 6 people... No matter I was flying from KSFO for 22nd time, or I just started a company... It was always 6... Kinda boring... And not realistic... There could be an additional option in settings called "various amount of passanger" and You could set a brackets like "+-/10%" or "+-30%". And then, the game will add some random factor from between the brackets, and modify Your based calculated passangerrs. You would never know, how many people will You take... And now, I'm gonna launch my FSX, and guess what... I think there is 6 people awaiting me! :D 7) Fleet... Well, that's kinda silly... If I want to buy ANOTHER plane of the one I'm currently flying, FSP won't let me do it! ![]() I need to either download another skin for that aircraft, or just copy the current one, and modify the config file ![]() variations of LearJet 45 I currently have on my config file? ![]() That's stupid ![]() ![]() Anyway - that's still great stuff ![]() Some day, I'm gonna pay for this, and I wil but a full version ![]() Going back to my airport. Been there, done that and if you give me your email address and $5 I'll sell you the T-Shirt that shows it! But alas, don't hold your breath waiting for anything to change. I have been waiting almost 5 years for the update that is coming shortly. Anyway keep it up and you will probably overcome some of these 'small' problems. |
