First failure! - evilerny506 - 20-12-2011

Awesomeness! Was flying in alaska at night in bad weather to an unfamiliar airport when I noticed that my right tank was a good bit below my left. I
swapped to the left tank only and continued to see the right fall. I declared an emergency, landed 10 minutes later with an empty right tank and
mostly full left in bad weather. Challended my poor skills to the max!

I was tickled in the post flight report that I had scored a whopping +480 points. Oh, wait why do I have -300 under that? AHHH didn't squawk 7700!
I'm stupid
AHH I lost money too. Fuel cost x50 multiplier... Poor me! Smile I got a good laugh out of this one!

Great product! Glad I bought it. I look forward to more failures and tuning to 7700! Applause

Good job spotting the fault (a fuel leak) and dealing with it correctly. Top

Here's an example of a professional crew in the same situation not realising exactly what was going on, taking the wrong action, and nearly killing a
few hundred people;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Transat_Flight_236

Short version: They noticed a fuel imbalance, initiated a cross-feed, and pumped all their fuel overboard.

::EDIT:: And I agree with you. This is the best FS addon I have ever paid money for, without exception.

Lol yeah I loved my first failure aswell, I had a complete electrical shortage, I landed fine but I do think the points system is a bit crappy...

No one was injured or dead, I declared an emergency, but I was still in minus points because the landing was hard? ...yes of course its going to be
hard... I had no electrical equipment? I was a bit disappointed with that to be honest, to use all your concentration and land an injured plane to
then be told actually no... you have minus points? I dont think the programmer took into account that he needs to change the landing parameters when
an emergency is declared, how often are you going to touch down at 130kts with a VS of 300ft/mn with a stricken plane? not very unless you are superhuman.

Ahh, I can't wait to have my first failure !
My company seems to be so safe Hunappy

EDIT 18h26 : ahah, I said that and just after, I had my first failure. The flaps were locked in retracted position.

Quote:Overall Flight Result: Perfect Cool

Pilot Bonus points: 600 points
You made a very nice landing. (+50)
There was a problem aboard and you declared an emergency. (+150)
A problem occurred during flight but you landed safely, nice job. (+400)

Pilot's Penalty points: -100 points
You didn't land at the scheduled airport LFSB but since you were conducting an emergency you will not receive a penalty. (what what what ? this diversion was not voluntary... I wanted to land at LFSD, I organized my flight in Flight Simulator to land at LFSA (why? I don't know. first mistake), I said to FSP I am going to land at LFSB (why?... 2nd mistake) and then I landed at LFQM (third mistake ... VFR by night in unfamiliar place...). First time it happened a too big mistake..)
You had the wrong altimeter setting upon departure. This can cause an accident. (-100) (grrrr, my fault)

And, how many times does this person have to mention the landing gear problem? Two threads and a mention in this one Well

Re: First failure! - GRodgers402 - 01-02-2012

I was taking off from runway 34 in Roanoke VA (KROA) in a 737 fully loaded at 100% weight capacity. There are mountains at the end of
the runway and on a good day its a small challange to climb and bank a little to the right to clear them at a low spot. For you experience
folks, not a big deal.

Right after I rotate and get off the ground and the gear is on its way up I get a BANG sound and a fire warning. The next thing I hear is the
co-pilot say "hang on to it" or something close to that as I start to spin to the right. I hit K7700 but honestly didn't know what to do next. For
a rookie like me, there was no time at all and I ended up hitting the ground 0 speed but vertical speet of 9000+. WOW! (my first failure
being set at 1%) It was a sad report and no, I didn't have a clue how to handle it anyway - bird strike shut down #2 engine. Didn't power
up, call mayday, just tried tried to keep it in the air,,, badly. I agree that it is a totally awesome add-on!

I have sense read up on the procedure for such an event, but have experienced a dozen eventless flights sense.

Total flight time for that flight: 36 seconds. Makes you think, but for the game - VERY COOL!

Glad you are enjoying the hours of boredom followed by moments of sheer terror Applause This program is the only reason why I got back in to flight
sim a few years ago. Fun times for all!

Howdy Sky...long time, no see!

Re: First failure! - Jason - 21-02-2012

Good thread, I just had a flight in a 777 from Kuwait City to Doha in which i had a window break and a cabin depressurization!!! I've had this add-on
for years and that's a new one for me. It's usually gear or flaps or bird strike for my aircraft.

You're supposed to cancel the destination Smile
