Airplanes with floats or ski's. - xwhitemousex - 27-10-2010

Is it possible to do tours with a float airplane, and do landings in random places, like a lake or something, then fly back to the original airport?

Or does a landing, nomatter where, register with FSP as unauthorized, a crash, or similar?

I was thinking a tour flight, land somewhere for half an hour or something (sorta like a bbq or whatever), then take off and fly back to airport.

And how does FSP register float airplanes? Can you start from anywhere with them or do you have to be at an airport (which kinda doesn't work if you
have floats only)....

FSX and FSP have airports with the appropriate water landing areas should they have them.

It is not possible to do what you have asked as it'll be registered as a landing - the best option is to the the scenic flight option from the drop
down of normal flight etc..

Seaplanes should be fine with FSP in terms of landing gear, it's only a/c that have snow skis that have issues as far as i am aware.

I tried the default one, Beaver?, and it was stuck on the gate unable to move since it's on the floats hehe.

Don't have any registered "water airports" in Norway, so I guess I'd need to go elsewhere for that. Seen there are quite a few in Alaska though.

In FSP for FS2004, I initiate flights from the water when the takeoff is "near" a land-based airport, and FSP credits the takeoff as having originated
from that airport. Likewise with landings. I don't actually know how close you need to be to an airport to get it accepted as the takeoff or landing
airport. This has never been a problem for me, and I fly a lot of float planes and flying boats.

I'll test that and see how it works for FSPX. My main airport is right by the water. I'm just so used to the "park at the gates" mentality that
maybe I'm just putting limits on myself (and FSP) without them actually being there.

Will test and see how it works out. What I wanted to do was basically take off from somewhere and land at a lake or cove that isn't
marked, sorta like flying to your cottage or to drop someone off for hiking. A bit of bush flying so to speak.

With float planes, you'll have to disable some of the penalties to get it to work without getting penalized. But I think you can take off and land
just about anywhere, and it works OK. You're also better off not setting your destination. If you do that, you can land quite a ways from any
airport, and not get penalized.
