Overspeed and an MSFS bug. - JaWood - 10-07-2005 The overspeed penalty works great! However, MSFS and it's problems really messes things up. Maybe others will know what I'm talking about. Lets say you'r flying at 340kts and your aircraft's speed limit at the moment is 350kts. Under normal everyday flying this would be totally acceptable. But MSFS does this really bizzare thng where the airspeed indicator will all of a sudden jump up to 365kts (15 kts over limit) and stay there for about two seconds, then shoot right back down to 340 where it was before. It's done this little querk for as long as I can remember. If I recall it has something to do with weather data transistioning (or something.) Anyways, now with FsP here, this bug breaks the speed limit glass cieling for the flight and continually destroys my pilot's reputation! ![]() Comment, remedies, please post. Re: Overspeed and an MSFS bug. - Gibbmusic - 10-07-2005 Yeah, I've run into the bug a lot myself. Some people say that you check the tickbox that say's something about smooth transitions or somthing like that in the wind and weather options. I checked that box and the same thing still happens. This is a bug in MSFS where if the winds change direction by even a little bit, it causes a drastic airspeed change. This usually only occurs at the higher altitudes where the winds are typically high (30-60 knots or higher). This bug is really a pisser and I would love for somebody to give a good solution. The only solution I have found so far is this...don't fly more than 25 knots under the max speed limit. Gibbmusic Re: Overspeed and an MSFS bug. - SpectroPro - 10-07-2005 I guess that in an upcoming version of FSP, they could have it give you a 3-5 seconds grace period. This would eliminate these little errors while still holding you to a speed limit for the most part. Re: Overspeed and an MSFS bug. - jboweruk - 10-07-2005 The only true way to cure this is with an external WX program such as ActiveSkyV. Re: Overspeed and an MSFS bug. - JaWood - 10-07-2005 I use ActiveSky, so why is is still happening? Is there an option somewhere that I have to enable? Re: Overspeed and an MSFS bug. - DanSteph - 10-07-2005 this has been discussed, tester with this problem were always able to cure it using weather programs such as FSUIPC... one has this problem during a long time turned mad and he finally solved that by getting the last version of *** (can't recall sorry) so there IS a solution but sorry I don't have it myself and I don't use weather program I'm not a specialist on them. Dan Re: Overspeed and an MSFS bug. - Gibbmusic - 10-07-2005 Yeah, I use ActiveSky also and that definately does not solve the problem either. I don't think the problem lies in the downloading and updating of real time weather in FS, but in the way FS handles a wind change itself. For example I believe that when you download weather, it assigns wind speeds and directions based on local observations. When you move from one observation area to another and alas the winds are reported different, the wind changes direction drastically instead of gradually like it should, causing the speed problem. Gibbmusic Re: Overspeed and an MSFS bug. - SWAFO - 10-07-2005 I notice it a lot with Wind Gusts in FS2004. This plays out in FS like it does in reality though, so I don't think it's a problem. I haven't encountered the true "bug" though. Sometimes between wind layers I'll notice an unusually sharp transition. Re: Overspeed and an MSFS bug. - Ehmjo - 10-07-2005 I have the same bug on every flight (-600 points!) is there a way to make FS Passengers ignore overspeed? Re: Overspeed and an MSFS bug. - SWAFO - 11-07-2005 Eric, Here's a suggestion... don't exceed the speed limit of the AC. lol Re: Overspeed and an MSFS bug. - Ryanamur - 11-07-2005 To solve this problem, you need the registered version of FSUIPC. In it you can set the option to smoothen the wind sheer... as far as the penalty is concerned, it's your responsibility to keep your speed below VNE... at ALL time. If you might encounter wind sheer (read turbulent air), you must stay clear of the yellow arc... that way you won't dip in the red! Post Edited ( 07-11-05 04:04 ) Re: Overspeed and an MSFS bug. - Nickio - 11-07-2005 No it has nothing do to with wind gusts. It really is a bug. What happens is when the active sky for example downloads whether it automatically puts it in, so if the last station showed tailwinds and the next one showes headwind, your ground speed will stay the same but your IAS will jump up and to match the real headwind effect that slowes you down, it will come down to your preset speed, and you will see that now with the headwind your ground speed is slower. I dunno what microsoft was thinking, if at all. I mean if it was a wind gust, there is no way your speed would go from a normal mach .82 to .88 in something like 0.1 seconds. I suppose that fsuipc when registered solves the problem Re: Overspeed and an MSFS bug. - JayKae - 11-07-2005 You can disable overspeed in the file called "more_option" in the config folder in the main FsPassengers folder in your main directory Re: Overspeed and an MSFS bug. - JaWood - 11-07-2005 Well, I dissabled the overspeed penalty, just as to avoid inadvertantly being penalized over and over again for overspeeding. Not that this means I'll go puposly overspeed all the time now; I'm still going to "pretend" that I'll get penalized if I go overspeed, but if the airspeed spikes, I won't curse about it any more. So I'm flying my first flight with the overspeed dissabled, and wouldn't you know it, it's the first flight that I haven't spiked the airspeed yet! It's like when you finally take an umbrella with you cause it's been raining all week and it doesn't rain. LOL! Re: Overspeed and an MSFS bug. - JayKae - 11-07-2005 LOL ok well have fun buddy ![]() |
