What is the best approach speed for 757 and landing speed? - Cpt.Matt_Reid - 09-04-2007

Hi,

What is the best approach speed for 757 and landing speed? im landing at places like TNCM and KLAX, with about 58 tonnes of landing
weight, also what flaps?

Thanks,

Well, I dont fly the 757,

But you usually want to land with full flaps and I would say around 130-145 kts landing speed.

Depends on weight, But hes right. I think its called VREF speed, but you wanna be around there. I fly the 763 a lot, and Visual Approaches
are pretty tough. But the PSS 757 Is also a fun one Smile

I think flaps wouldnt always be full, depending on the size of the runway, now im not sure. like it goes, Flap 1,5,10,15,20,25,30 I think. I
normally shoot for 25 since im comin in pretty slow, with Auto Brakes 2, and reverse thrusters of course.

Should be ~139 approach. By the time you flare you'll hit the ground at ~125. I'd say don't drop below 115 less you stall.

Do you have an FMC for your 757? If you have made all of the necessary inputs to the FMC(ZFW, reserves, etc), all you will need to do is
access the INIT REF to get the reference speeds for landing for flaps 20, 25 and 30 degrees. Depending on the winds at destination, you
may want to add 3-5 knots above Vref.

if your using the POSKY 757 then get lonny payne's panel and all your problems will be solved

you shouldnt be using Autobrakes unless the runway is really short or the runway is contaminated(snow, rain, etc.)

I don't think he was asking about autobrakes..more like flaps settingsWink By the way, why wouldn't you use autobrakes no matter what the
conditions are? That's why there are different degrees of settings for the autobrake systemWink Too bad the C208 doesn't have an
autobrake system...oh, wait...that big ol prop does a fine job on it's own Smile

Hi,
Yea i tried last night landing at around 120, to slow, i stalled, and my 757 is a CaptainSim plane, it has an FMC but this may sound stupid
but i dont know how too turn these on, in my PMDG it is already on, i know how to program them but dont know how to turn it on!

err, CS752 has no operational FMC. Should have went with the PSS 752.

I Land around 130 with a Posky AA 757

Re: What is the best approach speed for 757 and landing speed? - HB-100 - 09-04-2007

I don't know about Boing but with the Airbuses that I have this are my approach speeds:
With the A320 I run at 150knts in approach(140 on TD)
With the A330 (posky) 190knts (I see nothing out of the pannel if I fly slower, and zoom 0.75 is no option for me, gives wrong impression)
The MD11 I have falls off the sky if I go slower than 170 IAS.
The A380 , 150knts -160knts.

Re: What is the best approach speed for 757 and landing speed? - aristoteles - 10-04-2007

190 knots on the A330???? You mean Vref? That´s way too much isn´t it? Weird that you can´t see anything if you fly slower, that bird must give you
very interesting landings.... Wink

Re: What is the best approach speed for 757 and landing speed? - HB-100 - 10-04-2007

Well my last landing with the posky A330 was with 200 IAS. Was a little fast.
The thing is if I fly slower it goes to a high angle of attack (probabily not unrealistic but...) and the runway disapears below the pannel.
Then I have only the choose to switch to the virtual view what I do often but there I have no speed instrument. Which is dangerous.

(I don't know why this posky gauges in the virtual view doesnt work for me. Somehow my FS9 does not see the A330.gau as valid that
came with the posky model. might be becauseI do not allow FSSound(is instable!) or I do not know the reason. Maybe there is another
hint in their forum and hidden gauge download link )

The 2 other solutions
1 is to approach from high and ALWAYs keep a high sinkrate. But that's not always possible and I don't like to fly such an approach.
2 is to use zoom 0.75 for the pannel view. But this gives me a hard time in judgeing the approach. It looks all wrong. Certainly you can get
used to that view but A its wrong and B you get trouble when you fly an aircraft with the normal zoom again. At least so i think.
