Alternate airport - Sjef - 16-01-2007

Yesterday I did one of my favourite flights: EHAM-LOWI
Approaching LOWI the weather was so bad (airport was complete covered in clouds) so I had to fly to an alternate airport.
Is there a way to simulate that in FSPassengers? I just flew to my alternate and found that the passengers were not happy because they
didn't arive at the scheduled airport!
Declaring an emergency is not the way I guess!

Nope! Try cancelling the destination, instead! Wink

Re: Alternate airport - 0Artur0 - 25-11-2009

Why FSPaX just don't ask for alternate airport(s) when you enter destination airport? One more filed or so and the problem is solved... but I guess
it's not that easy.

Euhm....0Arthur0.....it is a 2 year old thread you're posting in Wink

Re: Alternate airport - 0Artur0 - 26-11-2009

But if I make a new thread somebody would definetly give me "Use the search" message....

Re: Alternate airport - Recon - 26-11-2009

You ask now in your first post allmost the same as Sjef did.
There is also standing a answer allready from DBE.
And you just ask it again.....and give you give yourself also already the answer in the same post.

Re: Alternate airport - 0Artur0 - 26-11-2009

I asked the same? I don't think so... I asked if there's a way to put in the function to enter alternate airport when you enter destiantion airport.
Where did Sjef ask that?

Answer from DBE is "Try cancelling the destination, instead!". I know this is a quick fix but it does nothing to realism. Since the destination
airport is there (as far as I know) only for the penalty and it does notnihg else I imagine it wouldn't be that hard to put in one extra field for
alternete airport.

But I see that this forum has more answers like "Do a search", "google is your friend", "you asked the same thing", "can't you read",.... than answers
to actual questions... but when I do a search and ask a question there... it's not good either... "you asked the same".."it's two years old"... so, I
do apologize for my rude, stupid and inappropriate question and I'm out of here. Bye.

Re: Alternate airport - Leftcoaster - 26-11-2009

@0Artur0, I submit the penalty reflects your passengers attitude and not a reflection on any captaincy decisions that you make.
Passengers pay to get to a particular destination, landing anywhere else even for reasons of their safety, is not likely to win any favour.
Those RL times I have been on diverted flights did not make me too pleased with the situation and typically the airline will bare the brunt
of any passenger anger.

Diversion is a pain and it makes people unhappy so that is reflected in your point score. Cancelling the destination makes them unhappy
but not as bad as landing at the diversion field without advanced notice.

Look at the penalty from your virtual passengers standpoint, the missed appointments, connections and general inconveniance of having
paid to fly to Point X but arriving safely at Point Y.

It seems to me like FsP handles this reasonably well. Cancelling the destination minimizes the disappointment (points penalty) while
preserving your landing options.

However, your other observations regarding some of the responses provided to questions around here are well said.

Cheers

Re: Alternate airport - 0Artur0 - 27-11-2009

Recon, yesterday was not my day, so no problem, it's all good.
Leftcoaster, I get your point. I would just replace this cancelling of the destination with a filed for alternate airport which you enter at the
beginning of the flight and has the same function as this cancelling action. Since pilots designate alternate airports at the beginning of the flight
and they don't "cancel the destination", I don't think this is such a bad idea. About passenger satisfaction.. I was on a diverted flight once.. we
were not happy at all Smile
