I turned on basic lights and understand that they have to be on between the runway and FL100. Does this also apply to GA aircraft? You
would rarely cruise a 172 above FL100 so this would mean that the landing lights stay on all the time??

Correct

if you are just flying a 172, turn off the light penalty option.

Re: Landing Lights - Brian F. - 18-09-2006

Or just leave the light on?

Or turn off the light penalty option and leave the light on

You're OK with basic light. But you can't turn on the Realistic Light Penalty because of the shared beacon/strobe button... and yes, your
Landing Light must stay on below 10,000' even in GA aircraft.
