Belly landing I will never forget. - patrickd123 - 05-04-2006 I was to land at KDTW and lower the landing gear when the copilot announced that it seemed defective. I was online flying on VATSIM and never heard before someone announcing emergency landing(they are supposed to be forbidden like the hijacking calls). But since I had no choice but attempting a belly landing and. I knew that FS2004 did not support it, at least I would do everything to the point of crashing. So I decided to announce a belly landing and see what the controller would do. My first suprise came when I heard and saw a general annoucement on VATSIM that 22L at KDTW was closed for emergency landing and that fire truck had been called. Then, when I was on final, I saw some aircraft slewing to the side of the runway to look at me crashing!!!! Well, they were probably as puzzled as I was when I landed the big bird on the belly and instead of crashing, I slided in a big scratching noise. That noise was probably the best sound I ever heard (after the first cry of my children at their birth!!!) And then at the end, cherry on the cake, I heard the cheering of the passengers and that's where I realized that I did not crash because FSpassengers was running and managed the belly landing. Thanks guys. That was memorable!!!! Re: Belly landing I will never forget. - DBE - 05-04-2006 Hey Patrick: welcome to the best add-on for FS9 to have ever hit the streets! I know the feeling: I needed total isolation and a neat glass of brandy after my first belly landing; and I recall that it took approx 30 min. for my knees to stop shaking). And thumbs up to VATSIM for adding to the fun!!! Re: Belly landing I will never forget. - calumd - 05-04-2006 hey well done for ur first belly landing....i had to change cos...well....yeah!!! Re: Belly landing I will never forget. - runibl - 05-04-2006 Welcome Patrick, and congrats on your succesful belly landing. Wow, seems Vatsim made it even more real. I wonder what they thought when they saw your plane sliding along the runway. Re: Belly landing I will never forget. - DanSteph - 06-04-2006 Hello Patrick, Welcome on this forum, yes belly landing add an immense fun. Was not an easy thing to program ![]() Best Dan Re: Belly landing I will never forget. - ste9889 - 12-04-2006 and its not an easy thing to do ![]() Re: Belly landing I will never forget. - SaVas - 12-04-2006 I will extend the sentiment, welcome aboard Patrick and congrats on a successful belly landing! Re: Belly landing I will never forget. - bdlong - 15-04-2006 Congratulations. I haven't been able to make a successful belly landing yet. Personally, I think it is a little too sensitive: 204 ft/min descent rate, plane is destroyed a half my passengers are killed.....? The last one, "wheels don't appear to be down and locked". exterior showed them down, just not locked. Landed, all three gears on the ground, and it was while slowing down, around 80 knots that the landing gear collapsed. Sorry, 23 passengers dies... WHAT!!!!???? ![]() |
