Gravel Runways (Stock AFCAD) - SpeedbirdCanada - 28-03-2006 Recently acquired an Airbus A400M for my fleet to fly to small unpaved airports. Though taxiing is fine, rolling down the runway induces the "off-runway" penalty. Using the default King Air 350 does not yield any penalties. I am therefore assuming that FSP does not like heavy aircraft (though this one designed for use on unpaved runways) on runways that are not asphalt or concrete. Is there a setting in FSP (besides disabling the penalty) or in FS or even the aircraft.cfg that may be altered to allow me to use the A400M on gravel runways? Remember, taxiing to/from the runway down the runway etc is fine.... takeoff roll and landing roll = instant penalty and passenger panic. Re: Gravel Runways (Stock AFCAD) - blzert - 29-03-2006 yes mate I have this problem with the default 737 (executive office jet repaint). I landed at a small airfield in Greenland and got the same prob. was a bit annoying, but I have no idea what would need to be edited. I dont want to disable another penalty either. Re: Gravel Runways (Stock AFCAD) - poden - 29-03-2006 Its almost impossible to avoid the off-runway penalty when flying to/from small airstrips. Probably best to go ahead and disable the penalty (see the FAQ on editing the file "more_penalty.cfg", which is what you have to do). Just flew the PMDG Beech 1900C to/from short gravel runways without any penalties.... I wonder when FSP determines the penalty is in effect? (ie aircraft category I'm guessing). Oh well... It's not as if it would be embarrassing enough to roll a plane off the runway (unless it was an emergency landing under extreme circumstances) so disabling the penalty is no big deal. Re: Gravel Runways (Stock AFCAD) - pegase - 29-03-2006 We also exerienced this in our world tour, I don't remember in which small island. Perhaps, you can find modified AFCADS for your favourites gravel runway airports ? Can you tell us your opinion about the A400 M (I geuss the Wilco's) ? I did not find any review so far. Re: Gravel Runways (Stock AFCAD) - SaVas - 29-03-2006 If I am remembering correctly there is something in the Aircraft cfg that tells what surfaces the plane can lan on. The Capt Sim C130 can take off and land with no problems from gravel/grass/dirt runways and its a heavy bird It might not be the aircraft cfg file though...dont remember where I saw it while perusing files. |
