Two questions...aircraft and time compression - Gibbmusic - 02-06-2005 First I just wanted to say I've lurked in this forum since January before finally registering tonight to ask this. I check this blasted thing every single day hoping that the product would suddenly be released. I'm hoping that our patience pays off and from the looks of it, I'm confident that it will. I've searched the forums but I couldn't find the answers to these questions: #1: Regarding buying aircraft....I know that FSPassengers looks in your aircraft folder and all of those aircraft / paintschemes will be available for purchase. My question is regarding the prices and quality of the aircraft..how are these determined? Has Dan actually researched used planes enough to have a good ballpark idea of how much each plane costs? I know that there are thousands of addon planes out there, what if we would like to use a rare plane that Dan may not have the cost associated with, like a custom plane? Are the cost variables based on weight or type of plane or how does that work? Also will most planes have different models to buy, like say a junky 50% effective model as well as a 90-100% newer model? How does the cost variable work there? #2: I thought I saw the answer to this before but I couldn't find it through the search. What is the penalty for using time compression? Will the pilot be credited for real time in the air or for sim time? Is the profit the same if you fly a route using time compression as if you flew it in real time? I like to fly longer routes sometimes but I don't have the time to keep the bird in the air for hours at a time. It would be nice if I could take off and get to cruise, turn on 4x compression for a while, then return to real time and land at my destination. Of course I would expect less of a profit and only real time flight hours credited to my pilot...is this how it works? Thanks for the info, I can't wait to buy this product! Gibbmusic Re: Two questions...aircraft and time compression - DanSteph - 02-06-2005 hello, The price is based on weight, type of aircraft, engine number, and also "hours" of the aircraft and state.. I have done a table with real price and weight to control the price and they are usually off by only a slight amount.... (max 10%) anyway it's within a logicall range. there is a production date database (based on name example DC10 747-100) if your day date is within production date you can buy a brand new aircraft (you can buy a brand new DC3 for example if you set your Fsdate to 1945 else you can't) Brand new aircraft cost full price, have only a dozen of hours of flight but don't have any maintenance cost surprise... Each time you buy an aircraft you have 3-4 choice of opportunities also, somes are good oportunities while some others may be costly in regards of maintenance expense... a "buy advice" text is here to help you make your choice. You may buy from time to time an aircraft that is a "bad opportunities" mean it have a quick degrade rate so the maintenance expense wwill be high, those aircraft are cheap have usually a high hour count and the buy advice give somes hints... #2 there is a slight penality of 30% of your pilot bonus points if you use time compression, but most important you can gain a special bonus for "long flight without using time acceleration and satisfied passengers" the goal is not to penalise people that use it but more to reward people that do NOT use it... hope this answer ? Dan Re: Two questions...aircraft and time compression - jboweruk - 02-06-2005 Hi Gibbmusic, where've I seen you before? I recognise the name from some forum or other. Thought it was this one but may have been the other airline add-on. 1. If I remember correctly Dan is using a rough guide and something to do with weight & no of pax to determine prices. 2. I believe he decided to penalise you for compression, but I don't think it will affect your earnings directly, that's more to do with # of Pax against expenses. Dan? If I'm wrong pls correct me. Dan Re: Two questions...aircraft and time compression - Gibbmusic - 02-06-2005 Thanks Dan, that answered my questions perfectly. You sure have put a lot of thought into little details like that, all the more reason this should turn out to be a surperb program. I know you won't get rich, but the quality I see here surpasses most add-ons that I have seen churned out by the big software companies. This brings me to my next point... jboweruk, you probably saw my name in the Airliner Pilot forum from Just Flight software. That is one title that has dissapointed me greatly. I think I may have put a total of 5 hours into it since I got it. That software is a good example of good packaging+good idea+good company+poor programming and planning=poor overall product. I spent more time creating and uploading new flight plans for other people to enjoy than I did playing the addon myself. I was hoping it would hold me over until FSPassengers but alas it has already started collecting dust. Gibbmusic Re: Two questions...aircraft and time compression - jboweruk - 02-06-2005 I know that mate, never get past 0 points, I keep getting a few flights up then losing 'em to a mistake. Re: Two questions...aircraft and time compression - Ryanamur - 02-06-2005 Guys, don't bash other software please. The fact is that to some people Airliner Pilot might be a better software then FsP. Personnally, I've tried both (I'm a FsP beta tester) and I can tell you that FsP rocks! The best feature of FsP is that it is totally open. You can create and manage your own company or you can just pick a company that is already there without any restrictions. You can start with a green pilot with restrictions on aircraft type or you can jump straight into a A-380 full of pax. It all depends on how you want to play. The 30% penalty will really only affect you if you start a new company with restrictions on aircraft types. For example, up to a certain amount of hours and points, you'll only be able to fly a small aircraft (C-172, C-182, Money Bravo...) then, once you get promoted, you can move up to a bigger aircraft (Baron...). Eventually, with enough points and flight time, you'll be able to fly the big stuff... only one problem. You must manage your airline to make sure you make enough money to purchase the big plane. That's the tricky part. Passengers come to your airline based on various criterion like your previous flight results, the cost of the tickets.... If you keep flying poorly, pax stop coming... you won't be able to purchase new aircraft and you'll eventually go belly up. Overall, FsP is simply the best add-on that I've come accross for any Flight Simulator. It brings Flight Sim to life because all of a sudden, you are flying with a purpose: to please your customers Re: Two questions...aircraft and time compression - Gibbmusic - 02-06-2005 I don't believe in just randomly bashing a product either, but I for one like to read people's true feelings about a product before I decide whether or not to by it. I would probably have a lot less "junk" software if I would have taken the time to read online reviews by average users. I know this forum is not intended as a place to voice opinion on other software, and I apologize for that. I was just comparing what I saw as obvious differences in the way AP and FSP were being handled by their developers. Gibbmusic Re: Two questions...aircraft and time compression - jboweruk - 03-06-2005 Hey, I didn't bash it, I just can't get on with that right hand seat in the Dsh8, come to that, I need the VC to land that ugly old beast. It's one plane I "won't" be "buying" for my airline, I much prefer the ATR, and I had hoped the guy that did that would get it sorted out for AP. |
