Hi Erika,

Someone had a similar issue to this some time ago. See this thread and scroll down to Jeff's post:

http://www.fspassengers.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=9317&highlight=unable+to+find+user%27s+document+directory

You may have something blocking it.

Sincerely finding a solution to this is far away from my capacity !
Recently I installed EZCA3 with also many problems in both Steam and P3DV4.5, but now resolved.
I used EZCA1 in FSX Steam with FSPX without problem, as soon as I installed the latest version of EZCA3 (.70) in FSX SE, FSPX was removed from the addon menu and impossible to reinstall ?
I now also ask EZDOK for answers or ideas.
I'm sure you're right when you say Something is blocking but I can't see what.
Thanks for following if you may.

Erika

RE: unable to find user's document directory - Joeflyer - 01-07-2019

Sorry about the delay Erika. Did you happen to sort it out? I don't know how EZDOK would have removed FsP from the menu. I have never heard of this, so I am completely baffled by it. If you still haven't resolved the issue, how about doing a system restore to a date that everything was operating normally? Of course you will lose flights that were completed during the time period, but that's why it's a good idea to make a backup of the database before you do a system restore. That way you won't lose any flights.

Also, I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary in the log.txt or install log. Even with -SE installed in the (x86) directory you seem to have no problems in that regard. A number of people have had protection issues by having -SE installed in this directory.

RE: unable to find user's document directory - erika - 05-07-2019

Hello Joeflyer,

Thank you again for the answer.
I've already restored the system to a previous point but it has not worked better after that.
I've also manually removed the Windows latest security updates (on June, 15th) without more chance.
You are right when you say there's a protection blocking the installation of FSPX when Steam is installed in the x86 directory. I really do think the problem is there.
Do you know how the other people have sorted out this "security" locked up ?
Another solution could, be according to me, to buy a commercial antivirus which could deactivate the Windows security updates, but I'm not quite sure of that. Could you please tell me if it should be a good idea ?
Finally what happens really when FSPX says :"unable to find the document's folder", which folder ? Maybe I could place this specific folder elsewhere and bypass the security.
EZCA 3 encountered the same blockage first and I had many troubles to reinstall it after the Windows security updates.
They finally told me at EZDOK to reload the program at Flight1 and update it to the .70 version and it did work.
I had reinstalled EZCA1 until then and it did work fine with FSPX (with the Windows security update), but when I replace EZCA1 with the latest EZCA3 version I confirm it installed EZCA3 properly but removing FSPX !
What a pity not to have FSPX anymore, I'm really deceived espacially because I fear there seems to be no simple solution.
All of this due to a intempestive Microsoft update !
Thanks again for the attention you give to my issue, because I really do love FSPX since the beginning.

RE: unable to find user's document directory - Joeflyer - 05-07-2019

Erika,

A number of people completely uninstalled -SE from the (x86) directory and reinstalled in C:FSX-SE, for instance...create a folder for -SE and point the installer to that folder. In my case I have FSX on a separate drive so not to worry about any OS drive issues.
The only AV I have is MS Security Essentials and Malware Bytes. I don't spend much time surfing the net, so having a high powered AV isn't a priority. I use my pc mostly for flight simulation anyway. When I get ready to download and install new flight sim software, I always shut off the antivirus. I still run on Win 7 64 bit and don't have the Win 10 protection/update issues.

When Dan made the latest in depth update to FsP, he wrote it to allow the main FsP folder to reside in the Documents library instead of the main FSX folder. Perhaps due to the protections in Win 10 on your system, the FsP installer could not detect the Documents library. I don't know if all of this will help you as far as EZCA3 goes, but it wouldn't hurt to try the alternative FSX-SE installation I mentioned above. Good luck!

RE: unable to find user's document directory - erika - 08-07-2019

Hello Joeflyer,

Very complete explanations, thanks again.

Anyway, I've lost all my hopes to see FSPX run again in Steam.

Won't be easy to give it up but I don't think it worth the pain to deinstall and reinstall all FSX and the addons, not knowing if it even will work after.

I will ask Microsoft about their bloody updates but don't hope any real and useful answer.

If only I knew what this security update (June 15th) has done to prevent programs to install in X86 (as FSPX or EZCA).

I will also have a look at the "Regedit".

A very painful experience at the end and waste of money due to absurd security systems I never asked for.

Thank you Joe for your help.

Erika

Erika,

I feel your pain with regards to re-installing everything. Sometimes the pain is necessary, however. Consider it a labor of love...perhaps that would make it easier Smile Don't give up!

RE: unable to find user's document directory - Cris0121 - 24-08-2019

I know this might seem a little bit obvious, but I will state it anyway. Sometimes windows UAC (User Account Control) can block things or get aggressive. You can bypass this by right clicking the file and selecting "Run as administrator." Many times UAC can block access to certain required folders for security purposes, or *jokingly* frustrate you. Just a hunch. Though, looking at the installation file, it seems it was able to locate the game installation.

Another suggestion (and maybe annoying) would to create a new user with Admin privileges, and try installing it with that one. This way you can be sure to have a fresh user folder, and fresh credentials. If this doesn't work and you do not wish to have to manually log in every time, you may always delete the new user.
