Penalty for not extending flaps - Marc Devillers - 14-02-2006

Hello all,

During two consequently flights ( Cessna 182 RG) I have endorced penalties for not extending flaps though the flaps were fully extended !
Can anyone give me an information about what I consider as a wrong penalty and what I have to do to avoid these penalties..

Many thanks in advance,

Marc Devillers

Hi Marc, make sure you don't retract flaps too early, not before 200 ft, to be save use 400-500 ft.

Marc,

As some aircraft dont require such flap settings, I find this penalty is one better left diabled. When you get into flying mainly aircraft that
need proper flaps settings, then reenable it.

Re: Penalty for not extending flaps - Turbine - 14-02-2006

Thats weird I remember when I started on career mode going from a Cessna to a 737 and I got a penalty for not extending the flaps for takeoff... I
understand on the Boeing 737 you extend the flaps to 5. I had no idea you had to do that with a cessna also. I remember flying a C-172 out of
Orlando exec. when i took lessons I sure dont remember extending the flaps for takeoff.... Please correct me if I am wrong but its been a few years
since I flown in real life. Money got kinda tight... Thanks

been discussed many times Turbine

in fsp you have to use flaps for ALL take off and landings (unless you disable the option)
correct you dont need flaps for takeoff in a cessna 172 etc in the RW

Re: Penalty for not extending flaps - andyman - 15-02-2006

It really depends on the type of takeoff and the desired performance. Normal takeoffs are flaps up for a C172, but to go short or rough
field, you bring flaps to 10, hold the brakes until full power and then let go. So it really depends on what you want the plane to do.

Do you get a penalty for not having flaps down on aircraft that don't have flaps like the Vega, Tri-motor, and other classic aicraft?
