[Solved]64-bit Requirement for Voice Pack .wav files? - VictorVector - 04-07-2017

Hello,

Just bought this a couple days ago, and am trying to debug some of the issues I am seeing. I downloaded some voice packs from the More Download section, and created a new Voice Pack folder using the VoicePackCreator.

It seems that some of the downloaded .wav files do not work though. I can play them fine directly, they just cause an error when trying to play through the VoicePackCreator, and do not play in-game. The error I get in VoicePackCreator is:

"CreateSoundBuffer

Error Number: 80004001"

The only difference I see in the files that do not work, is that they are 32-bit, instead of 64-bit like the rest of the examples. Is this the reason this is happening? Any chance you can allow 32 bit as well? Otherwise, what program do you recommend for converting from one to another. Trying to use VLC but not sure what config to use.

This thread belongs in the Customizing forums. I will move it there.

Here is the step by step guide about voice packs:

Thanks for the link. It doesn't seem like there is a requirement for 64-bit, so I don't know why this pack I downloaded from the "More Download" section is giving me the error I posted above. The pack I am referring to is:

http://www.fspassengers.com/?action=download&cat=All&search=1099&searchtype=Id

It has 18,201 hits and a rating of 9/10, so I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Does it work for anyone else?

You seem to be the only one I've seen who is having the issue. I have rarely used any voice packs over the years, but any one I have used worked perfectly. Possibly have you downloaded and installed other voice packs in addition to this one? There maybe a conflict of sorts going on with your system.

Ok, that was not very helpful.

There's no conflict with my system as the VoicePackCreator works fine with other voice packs, just not with the one I linked above.

After not getting much help on here, I was able to finally figure out a solution.

The problem here is that the audio files in question were only 32kbps in quality. You can view this by right clicking and viewing file properties, then the Details tab.

The solution is to convert the files to a higher bitrate. If you install Audacity (which is free) and load the audio file in question, you can then export it as a WAV. When exporting, make sure to first select "Other uncompressed files" from the "Save as Type" dropdown. Then under "Format Options", select WAV (Microsoft) for Header, and Unsigned 8-bit PCM for Encoding.

This will end up saving the .wav audio file under the same quality rate (64kbps) as the default voice pack audio files. Hope this helps someone. Enjoy!

Glad you found a solution. Sorry you couldn't get others to help out with the situation. As you can see, I had very limited knowledge of sound files.
