New Airplane!! - jazzaviator - 06-06-2016 hello all. I just wanted to share the news that I will be going to florida to pick up my new airplane next month. pretty excited about it. 1979 F model Aztec. she's ugly, and the avionics suck, but she's airworthy, has a fresh annual, ifr certified, and has solid engines. I'm super stoked. maybe now I can get my MEI for cheap and go get that $500 hamburger a little farther away from home. pics to follow tonight. RE: New Airplane!! - Joeflyer - 07-06-2016 Awesome! It's been years since I've flown in a Aztec. Makes you want to go buy Carenado's Aztec now, doesn't it? ![]() Looking forward to the pics! RE: New Airplane!! - jazzaviator - 07-06-2016 I'm kind of on the fence about it now. I was told that the engines are fresh and have just been essentially overhauled, but were not signed off as overhauled due to some technicality. so, the books show these engines a little over TBO. that destroys my resale value... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: New Airplane!! - Joeflyer - 08-06-2016 Run Forrest! Run! ![]() RE: New Airplane!! - jazzaviator - 08-06-2016 i mean, the panel is pretty nice. the engines are basically new, they just didn't sign off on an overhaul. compression is solid and everything checks out by my dad and his friend (both are A&P/IA). she flies nice. she was involved in a gear up landing, but everything has been fixed. my dad flew it last week and says its a dream and doesn't spudder at all. and for $30k, you cant really beat it. most F model Aztecs are going between $85k - $195k. so with a $15k paint job, and someone signing off on the engines, I should have a good plane to flip after I get my MEI. I found a gns430w for $4700 and could have it installed and balanced for under $1000. but I was told that adding avionics doesn't really increase the value |
