Terror plot foiled by Brits - Airliner - 10-08-2006 FOXNEWS ALERT! It's not even hit the web yet but, a terror plot was just busted up. The goal was to blow up about 20 aircraft. Good job Brits! Again, this is just now hitting the news so info is sketchy. In the words of the SkyNews anchors: "The UK security level has been raised to Critical - An attack is expected." BA has also issued a statement to expect delays at all UK airports. 20 people have been arrested. If successful, they suspect it would have been bigger than 9/11. Sounds like it's shaping up to be a busy news day. Re: Terror plot foiled by Brits - Airliner - 10-08-2006 I think they said SkyNews website has something. I'm still watching FoxNews right now - they're piping in from SkyNews. Statment being given now. Re: Terror plot foiled by Brits - Airliner - 10-08-2006 Here ya go: http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-1230417,00.html Re: Terror plot foiled by Brits - Airliner - 10-08-2006 I just finished typing up some alert notices for today's departing guests - in case they are traveling by air - just to bring them up to speed and suggest allowing extra time. Anyway, this should call our attetion to the 11 Eqyptians who entered the US recently and mysteriously disappeared. And that on the heels of the announcement of an Eqyptian terror group joining Al Qaeda. Hmm.... Again, not that ever Eqyptian is a member of that group, but, the inverse IS true. Eyes open everywhere today - they're at it again. Re: Terror plot foiled by Brits - Airliner - 10-08-2006 Carry-on restrictions: Wallets, passports, baby supplies, etc. can be carried in a clear plastic bag. Baby food can be carried on if the person samples it first. Yikes! Hey, no chances! No further updates yet. Re: Terror plot foiled by Brits - alphaone - 10-08-2006 If it stops a plane from being blown up. Good job! Re: Terror plot foiled by Brits - Airliner - 10-08-2006 USA just raised our terror threat level - as I suspected. 0305 (gmt - 5): 3 hour delays on all flights at Stanstead. Post Edited ( 08-10-06 09:07 ) Re: Terror plot foiled by Brits - Airliner - 10-08-2006 Lufthansa, Brussels and Iberia just announced they are canceling all flights to the UK today. Also, ALL US domestic flights are going to experience a heightened state of alert and screening - as I said, those mysterious 11 individuals are still unaccounted for but, they haven't mentioned them specifically - yet. Re: Terror plot foiled by Brits - alphaone - 10-08-2006 This could get interesting ![]() Re: Terror plot foiled by Brits - Airliner - 10-08-2006 Add Air France and KLM to that list. Too many memories coming back, not that they were ever forgotten - just not in the forefront as they are again today. Re: Terror plot foiled by Brits - DBE - 10-08-2006 Good job!! Just wondering about the clampdown on cabin luggage, though: what's the point in x-raying them on a daily basis if, in a crisis situation, this turns out to be unsufficient? ![]() Re: Terror plot foiled by Brits - Airliner - 10-08-2006 Evidently, these guys had been testing the system for some time and determined that the carry-on screening wasn't sufficient to catch whatever it was they were planning on using as explosives. How this was determined, I don't know - presumably from interrogations of those that have been apprehended. Good job yes but, it's far from over. They are still looking for at least 1 other suspect. These pukes are everywhere and we really don't know when or where they will pop up and strike. Again, though, hats off to the UK for snagging this before they were able to pull it off fully. As stated many times this morning, if they had all succeeded, this would have been bigger than 9/11. Added: (See, I'm not just trying to increase my post total! ![]() Apparently, they were planning on using some form of fluid as an explosive that was thought to be undetectable as such by the screening process. Post Edited ( 08-10-06 10:15 ) Re: Terror plot foiled by Brits - DavidPowell - 10-08-2006 Heathrow is now closed to incoming traffic not already in the air. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news has plenty of information. Re: Terror plot foiled by Brits - Airliner - 10-08-2006 FoxNews / SkyNews is going to be having a press conference/briefing sometime soon. Now the numbers are 6 planes targeted, as many as 50 individuals involved, 2 still at large and also - this has the footprint of an Al Qaeda operation. They claim it was 8-9 months in the planning. Too much coming in now to update plus, I DO have work to do. ![]() |
