FedEx MD-10 Gear Collapse - Joeflyer - 28-07-2006 I was on my way back to the office after lunch today and learned a MD-10's left main gear collapsed while landing on RWY 18R in Memphis. That particular MD-10 flew over my house while on the approach(the outer marker is across the street from my home). I had noticed all of the aircraft making approaches have been heavily crabbed into the wind, so it seems feasible to me that the MD-10 may not have exited the crab prior to touchdown and placed too much side loading on the left main gear. This incident is quite similar to the DC- 10 incident last December in Memphis that had the same problem. I suppose all of the MD-10/DC-10 crews need to go back to learning crosswind landing techniques ![]() Post Edited ( 07-28-06 20:41 ) Re: FedEx MD-10 Gear Collapse - Drew - 28-07-2006 must be something up with freight planes lately......... http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/west_midlands/5082200.stm Re: FedEx MD-10 Gear Collapse - Joeflyer - 28-07-2006 Well, yesterday a FedEx 727 aborted a takeoff in Kentucky due to an engine problem but ran off the runway ![]() one. Re: FedEx MD-10 Gear Collapse - AeroJim - 28-07-2006 Maybe they should try the wing low crosswind landing instead of crabbing it. . . i am a huge wing low fan. . .works excellent. . . and c'mon how often can ur passengers (real life) tell people they have landed on one wheel before. Re: FedEx MD-10 Gear Collapse - alphaone - 29-07-2006 The correct technique is to crab into the wind until the flare, then straighten out and put the wing down into the wind. Re: FedEx MD-10 Gear Collapse - Joeflyer - 29-07-2006 Those big freighters don't particularly like to "wing down" too much close to the ground....especially in crosswind situations. This is why you should use UPS! ![]() Re: FedEx MD-10 Gear Collapse - alphaone - 02-08-2006 Quote:This is why you should use UPS!Yeah! Cause then your stuff will catch fire ![]() Just good fun ![]() I like both ups and fedex. Hell I like pretty much all airlines. Post Edited ( 08-02-06 07:19 ) Re: FedEx MD-10 Gear Collapse - Joshuah A. Wetzel - 02-08-2006 No matter if you use FedEx or UPS, your package is going to get damaged somehow! ![]() Re: FedEx MD-10 Gear Collapse - Evan - 04-08-2006 Not even just Freight airlines, put your stuff through baggage check at any major pax airlines and stuff will get damaged, nothing fragile or else its done Re: FedEx MD-10 Gear Collapse - Joshuah A. Wetzel - 04-08-2006 Your stuff would really get damaged if you were on this flight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sj0M249VVmo&search=hard%20landing ![]() Re: FedEx MD-10 Gear Collapse - alphaone - 05-08-2006 Quote:Joshuah A. These are quite real and very scary on the other hand: http://flightlevel350.com/Aircraft_Airbus_A321-Airline_TAP_Portugal_Aviation_Video-116.html http://flightlevel350.com/Aircraft_Various_Aircraft-Airline_Various_Airlines_Aviation_Video-4418.html Re: FedEx MD-10 Gear Collapse - Joshuah A. Wetzel - 06-08-2006 I knew it wasn't a real plane, I saw the entire commercial on another web site; however, it is still really hilarious! ![]() |
