The costs of hiring pilots? - CowlFlapsOpen - 14-12-2005

Does anyone know how the cost for hiring (transfering) a pilot is computed? Is it a fixed cost, or depend on the pilot, level, points, etc?

I ask because I started a new company and wanted a budget just large enough to buy three specific planes and acquire all three of my active pilots.
Through some trial and error I learned I needed to have about $3+ Million extra to get the pilots and still have just enough left over for the 3
planes and a small ($10k) operating cushion. I've just done it the one time so I don't really know if that will change next time I start a company
because the skill level and hours of the pilots have gone up etc.

Just curious. The manual only makes a parenthetical comment about there being a cost to transfering pilots. I assumed it was only going to be a few
hundred dollars the first time and had to start my company over because I didn't have a large enough start up budget (all planes, no money to hire my
experienced pilots!). There doesn't seem to be any cost to creating a new (C0) pilot within the company.

There is no cost of a C0 pilot in your own company, when you Xfer a pilot the cost the other airline pays is calculated on rank as well, I
don't know the exact formula Dan used but I do know the higher the rank the more it costs.

Just create a dummy company with gazilion $. Transfer the pilot (note the amount) and purchase your 3 planes (note the amount). When
that's done, just create another company with just enough cash. Shouldn't take you more then 5 minutes total.

I'm sorry but if you fly a CH-47 then you are a Hooker. I am a CH-47 crewchief and I am also a hooker, a $4000/hour hooker!

okay, I won't touch the hooker comment... Smile
that is what I essentially did, create a dummy company to see what they cost. Just curious as to what goes into pricing them. I guess I could wait
until WalMart stocks them...perhaps cheaper Smile
