Is X-Plane more realistic than MSFS?!? - ivo - 13-12-2005 I have only played MSFS and I really enjoy it but I cannot tell if it is realistic or not as I am not a real world pilot( too young). There are some people that say that X-Plane is more realistic than MSFS, but I don't believe it. Is it true or are they just liying?? Re: Is X-Plane more realistic than MSFS?!? - samiranks - 13-12-2005 havent messed with xplane but i doubt seriously that anything out there can be more realistic than flightsimulator 9. I do know that MSFS have alot of addons that cause the program to be the best. for example "FSpassenger" Re: Is X-Plane more realistic than MSFS?!? - SWAFO - 13-12-2005 I think it's all a matter of preference really. I tried one of the older X-Plane's, but I didn't like it at all. I've heard that flight dynamics are modelled very good, but I couldn't testify to that. Re: Is X-Plane more realistic than MSFS?!? - silo - 13-12-2005 I'll jump in here. Last time I tried X-Plane was version 6. Very good if you want to use it to train for real flying. Aircrafts respond the way they do in real life. Graphically was very bad comparing to MFS. Everything changed with the latest version though, 8.21. Graphics now is much better, textures are amazing. There are some screenshots of the new version on their webpage. I took a brake from MFS and now I find my self using X-Plane exclusively since I'm training for my CFI. They are FAA approved by the way. So the bottom line is, if you want to learn how to fly, use X-Plane. If you wanna just kid around, use MFS. I'm a long time MFS user myself (since 5.0) and I love it but unfortunately it has a lot of limitations on the flight models. Maybe the new version will be better? Re: Is X-Plane more realistic than MSFS?!? - samiranks - 13-12-2005 whats the website silo? for x-plane? Re: Is X-Plane more realistic than MSFS?!? - silo - 13-12-2005 http://www.x-plane.com Post Edited ( 12-13-05 04:35 ) Re: Is X-Plane more realistic than MSFS?!? - silo - 13-12-2005 You can even download the demo but only for 8.2 if I'm not mistaken. The improved graphic version is 8.21 which comes on 7 Dual Layer DVDs (yes dual layer!). That would be kind of hard to download. Only the installation disc is 9.5GB (includes USA), but then you need to install the rest of the world. The author claims there are no 2 textures that look alike in the whole world (like MFS has). It took me about 3 hours to install everything and it's approx a little over 60GB on the HD. The only thing I'm not really crazy about are the panels. We are used to much better looking ones with MFS. But I like the fact that you can modify them almost in real time. Plus there are companies already selling panels for X-plane. They'll get there.... Comparing to version 6 now you can scroll up and down to reveal different portions of the panel AND it has 3D (virtual) cockpit too. The demo didn't really seem that realistic but I wouldn't know anyways. The PMDG planes look a lot more sophisticated than the aircraft in X- Planes. Are they?? and are there a lot of "sophiticated" X-Plane Add-Ons like the Queen for MFS?? Thanks for all the help!!! Ivo Re: Is X-Plane more realistic than MSFS?!? - silo - 13-12-2005 Quote:first my joystick was all messed up and everything was in reverse and it was way to sensitive Go into the controls section and reverse the axis by putting a checkmark next to the axis that is reversed. In there you can adjust sensitivity as well. Quote:second, the default panel looks a lot less sophisticated compared to something like the LDS767 or the PMDG aircraft As I said, the panels are good but do not compare to LDS or PMDG etc... but they are much better now with the new version. Quote:third, the graphics weren't as good as I expected them to be I don't think you tried the new version because it's not available for download. You need to buy it. Only the installation disc is 9.5GB (includes whole USA). The one that you probably tried is either 8.1.6 or 8.20...the one I'm talking about with amazing scenery is 8.21. Quote:and are there a lot of "sophiticated" X-Plane Add-Ons like the Queen for MFS?? Not yet but they are working on it. There are some beta versions around of 737s and Airbus 320s. A compare and contrast here, what are you getting FPS wise in FS2004 compared to X-Plane? Just curious which runs smoother. Re: Is X-Plane more realistic than MSFS?!? - Jackal - 14-12-2005 slightly off topic... i was just wondering if anyone knows how close the view is at FL370 in MSFS to real life. I don't feel like i'm that high when i'm playing MSFS. A slightly odd question i realise.. but still. ... ![]() Re: Is X-Plane more realistic than MSFS?!? - Dutch64 - 14-12-2005 I sometimes put my monitor on the floor and stand on a chair myself to get this feeling of realism ![]() |
