*OT* 2nd Hard Drive - dannyboy2005 - 03-08-2007 Hi I'm going to install another hard drive to my rig, this will so i can record my flights and have no stuttering. Its logical eh. My question is.. I have a Maxtor SATA hard drive i want to install (Same as my primary one.) but would i have to format windows to install it or do i just plug it starigt onto my mtoehrboard then my pc will reconsie it? Also if i have all my FS stuff on this hard drive (Add-ons, The FS9 Games ect) Will my performance increase? Thanks Dan Re: *OT* 2nd Hard Drive - =HPSF=Jarhead - 03-08-2007 The Bios should automatically recognize the drive. However you will need to partition/format it to store data on it. It is pretty easy to do. Here is some help: http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-US&name=install-troubleshoot-sata-non-mac&vgnextoid=2b089d2c3c90e010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD As for running your games on the second drive it won't be faster unless you setup a RAID 0 with the original drive. This would require reinstalling everything from scratch and using the RAID capabilities of your motherboard. Re: *OT* 2nd Hard Drive - dannyboy2005 - 03-08-2007 Well i've got a ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe Motherboard and the latest bios, so basically all i need to do is plug the lead in from the secondary hard drive to the 2nd slot on the motherboard and hopefully my computer will pick it up? Re: *OT* 2nd Hard Drive - Jambone - 03-08-2007 I have that motherboard! Re: *OT* 2nd Hard Drive - dannyboy2005 - 03-08-2007 Its ok i suppose. I'm considering to upgrade soon. Re: *OT* 2nd Hard Drive - =HPSF=Jarhead - 03-08-2007 You machine will pick it up. I have 4 drives with the same motherboard and all installed with no problems. RAID is also very easy to setup on Asus boards. |
