Mcmurdo Station Ice Runway (NZIR) - jfb - 20-10-2006

Did anyone try to land a B747 on that rw?
Touch down is no problem but after touching down I have to turn off reverse thrust at 60kn - but I can´t stop the aircraft neither on the ice surface
nor on snow (with spoilers deployed and breaks at max.)

Any ideas? What can I do? Or is this rw simply not suitable for a 747?

No problem

As for question, never been there myself Smile

I thought I was the only one who flew there! Trying to get on there atm IRL. I flew my trusty 732 there from Christchurch and opted to take the hit
for using the reversers below 60. I tryed last spring to get a 773 down but ended up turning it into a submarine when I ran off the end. Pax didn't
find the icy water refreshing Wonder

That´s what I wanted to avoid - using the reversers below 60.
Maybe I should apply left brake take back thrust on engines 1 and 2 and push 3 and 4 to max below 60 to turn the aircraft around 180 degrees - it´s
worth a try - will post the result here. Drink

don't even think about it for doing it with that one , I did it with an 737 and you will get more penaltys for it instead of good things and your
gear will be damaged and you will have to keep on reverse thrust until you don't move anymore and the runway will be not long enough
with the 737 I stopped just on time.
if you wanna go to there take an C-130 that will do the job perfect
