Creep At Idle - poden - 02-06-2006

Does anyone have experience with editing the Aircraft.cfg file in such a way as to eliminate the tendency of some freeware planes to "creep" forwards
while the parking brake is on? I'm trying to get the freeware Piaggio P180 Avanti to a more "tolerable" state, and have run into this problem. Can I
just increase the brake pressure available for the parking brake? How about somehow reducing the engine thrust at idle?

Suggestions?

Re: Creep At Idle - crowebird - 03-06-2006

I have had this with payware also, I'm not sure the fix, but it has to do with the ground not creating enough friction between the wheels,
therefore, the idle engine thrust is enough to overcome the friction

Re: Creep At Idle - poden - 03-06-2006

I've been looking at a aircraft.cfg for a plane with Turboprop engines, and I see an item called "Static Thrust". This is presumably the thrust the
engines put out at idle. Turboprops actually do create a little bit of "jet" thrust in addition to the propeller thrust, so even if the propeller
pitch was set to provide absolutely no thrust, there would still be some residual forward thrust. A weak parking brake in addition to this residual
thrust might be enough to cause "creep". Possibly a combination of changing the "brake effectiveness" and residual thrust could solve the issue. I
would be VERY disappointed to see this problem in a payware plane; it smacks of insufficient testing measures, meaning there are likely quite a few
other bugs.

Which payware planes have you seen it on?

I've seen it on two freeware planes myself, the Piaggio P180 Avanti, and Mike Stone's Lear Fan (both turboprops).

I won't have a chance to check any of this out until tomorrow at the earliest, but I'll post again if I find anything out.

Re: Creep At Idle - pdjpeter - 03-06-2006

I've seen this on the dsb hawk T1A

Re: Creep At Idle - Drew - 03-06-2006

my citation x does this also

Re: Creep At Idle - aristoteles - 03-06-2006

When it happens to me I usually think that my throttle stick might not be properly calibrated...

Re: Creep At Idle - pdjpeter - 03-06-2006

yea i've thought that but i've made sure its calibrated and also it only happens on certain aircraft which shows that its not throttle stick

Re: Creep At Idle - crowebird - 03-06-2006

I thought the same too, but I recalibrated, and checked all the values (It is with the eaglesoft Cirrus SR-22 G2) but I know its calibrated
right, and I have asked at the forums, but they said what I said, that their isnt enough friction between teh ground and the wheels?? so the
thrust overcomes the break and you creep forward... but I wish I could fix it still..

I've posted this question on Simviation too, and one of the answers there recommends editing the airfile with a tool which can apparently be
downloaded. I don't have time to pursue this right now, but I do hope to eventually check it out.

Re: Creep At Idle - jboweruk - 04-06-2006

I think you can in the .cfg file overcome it. I believe you have to look for the brakes and increase their effectiveness.

Re: Creep At Idle - crowebird - 04-06-2006

Maybe this value has to do with creeping... go into the aircraft.cfg under [breaks] and change toe_brakes_scale=0.xxxx to a little bit higher,
but make sure to save the default value just incase...

Re: Creep At Idle - alphaone - 05-06-2006

From my understanding, this can be caused by FS9 just not being very good at simulating ground movement. Also, it can be caused by idle thrust being
too high. Like in my Aeroworx B200 if I keep the engine torque below 200ft/lbs the plane will not creep at idle, and I do this using the fuel
condiditon controls.

Re: Creep At Idle - poden - 05-06-2006

Well, I've edited all sorts of things in both the aircraft.cfg and .air files. Nothing has any effect. I think this plane is fundamentally messed up.
There are 2 freeware Piaggio P180 Avantis models. The one that DOESN'T creep is the one by M. Noriega. Has anyone flown that one, and if you have,
what do you think?

Re: Creep At Idle - jboweruk - 05-06-2006

I can strongly recommend the payware one from FSD. It doesn't creep at all but does fly nice.
