Wow just got the ATR......... - XM DUDE - 26-03-2006

it is a sweet flying airplane, it will take some time to learn the airplane, but it is well done!

Yep, it's a very nice plane. I'm glad you like it.

Its a white knuckle airplane if you fly long distances without the fmc, anyone know how to get it to hold its airspeed on its own?

Re: Wow just got the ATR......... - runibl - 27-03-2006

It doesn't have an autothrottle. Pressing IAS hold, makes it hold selected airspeed with pitch changes, though i haven't tried this yet.
Right clicking with the mouse between left and right throttle levers, will engage TO Power setting. This you can use if you want to rest you knucles,
but keep an eye on the speed.

The aircraft does not have autothrottles, but it has computer control of torque settings. IAS hold in this aircraft is a pitch mode not a speed
mode:

I have the ATR on order, should be delivered in a few days.

They look like very handy links Fruitfly Top Bookmarked.

Its just that... well, after skimming your links i'm worried,
it all seems very complicated compared to my only other payware a/c, the PMDG 737.

The ATR is highly regarded, and i've had my eye on it for a while ... i'll give it my best shot Cool

Re: Wow just got the ATR......... - XM DUDE - 27-03-2006

I use FS Nav as I havent bothered with the FMC that much, but the aircraft can be more hands on than jets

No, actually soooo easy: when taking off, right click on the power levels to put them in "the notch" (- automatic prop mode), slam the
throttles and off you go. ATR will keep the 170 knots (providing you have set that speed). You won't have to think about the throttle before
you want to descent cause it won't overspeed! Wink
OK, in order to descent, set your new altitude, set 240 knots, right click on the power levels to put them out of the notch. Now you're in the
manual throttle mode again. The plane will keep the speed of 240 kts. If you want a higher rate of descent, decrease the power: the plane
will dive more steeply to make up for the loss of power to keep 240 kts. If you give more gas, itwill
descent more slowly in order not to go faster than 240. That's all there is to it!
And one more thing: if your cruising altitude is below 7-10 000 ft (but that depends on the airplane's weight), you won't go to that
automatic, notch mode at all, otherwise the plane would overspeed.
