Some ActiveSky 6 questions - jeremy19446 - 26-12-2005

So I've finnaly decided I cannot fly another flight without ActiveSky from the good reviews I have heard. But before I purchase it I had a few
questions. How accurate is the real world weather? is it a matter of a few minutes or a few hours? Does it kill your frame rates? Those are my main
concerns right now...I might post some more questions later but its getting pretty late so I better go to bed. Thanks everyone.

I just purchased it tonight, and installed it immediately...The only main features I used was for the real world weather, and it was superb.
Such an improvement from the regular FS9 real world updated weather.

Also, I didn't notice too much of a difference in frame rates either, which surprised me. Granted, I only did one flight, but it was from
Kennedy to Detroit, a light rain at KJFK to a low visibility/snow in KDTW, which I thought would use up more frame rates than usual. But, it
held around what it usually is.

I checked the weather at Kennedy to live weather services online, and it seemed exact, to the second. I highly recommend buying it.

Usually the weather servers are 1-2 hours behind, some deserted places might be a bit more but majority is pretty upto date.
You can choose in the options how often it should download (or check for) new weather. I've set mine to 10 minutes i believe.
The program itself has hardly any impact on framerates. The depiciting of the clouds can be however but that depends on what you setup in the options.
It comes with several cloudsets like 128x128 up to 512x512. There is also a possibility to choose for dxt clouds which will be even faster but
slightly less quality (Less colours and less resolution) It also makes a difference whether you choose for 2 or let's say 5 cloud layers etc. etc.
So, i think you will be able to find a setting in which your pc runs very smooth and have wonderful skies at the same timeSmile

I think during flight you click CTRL+F12.

Re: Some ActiveSky 6 questions - Dutch64 - 26-12-2005

That's correct, then click the little white button so it turns green, load your flightplan in it and set options as you wish Wink

Re: Some ActiveSky 6 questions - jboweruk - 27-12-2005

I spend on average £100 a month on FS, still at least I get to do a good few hours flying for that money, it would buy me about an hour in a
real plane..... Hunappy

Re: Some ActiveSky 6 questions - ivo - 28-12-2005

I purchased it but I can't download real world weather! It says "error downloading real world weather... try again". What is wrong? Bug
