(sorry bout the caps - copy & paste job) after some opinions on this product if anybody has it. the default MSFS scenery is pretty dull at
night.

I have it and i love it. Reasonable priced too... It ads some nice atmosphere to night flying. Check their site for some screenshots.

Same here! And it's pretty reasonabily priced too.

is it universal or does it only affect certain areas?

Yes and yes...
Meaning that it is universal, and it only affects areas where there are default night textures.
I.e. if you have been used to flying over a dark featureless area, then you shouldn't see much difference with UNEP.

Universal. The only thing is that there's no difference in seasons, so snow during daytime won't give you snow at night. But that's
because how FS is designed. And, another thing, if you install other scenery like an airport which comes with its own night lighting, it will
overwrite for that specific area your zinertek lights.

There's a freeware version of it as well by the same author, but I don't think it is as extensive.
Check for Night Enviroment Upgrade or something to that effect from flightsim.com.

I have the upgrade. It's good, but I don't think it was worth the money I payed for it. You might want to try the freebe one first.
One thing, their technical support is indeed VERY FAST and very helpful, and seemingly available at any hour of the day.
