Having a terrible time with winds at high alt. - Fritz Bayerlein - 09-09-2005 This is terrible. I tried making a flight from San Fransisco to Calgary a little while ago, using a static real world weather shot. At 32000ft I was getting MASSIVE wind changes, nearly every 5 seconds, some of which would be complete 180° changes in direction. My planes all over the place, I couldn't maintain any set speed... it was bad. Are winds really like this or is this an FS9 issue? Whatever the case may be, what can I do to fix this? I alt-F4'd that flight, I was so mad. I refuse to believe the winds on the way to Canada change direction ever 5 freakin' seconds! How can I fix this so that the wind changes are EXTREMELY SUBLE and less frequent? Or, if their current behavior is not realistic, how do I make this right? PLEASE HELP. I won't like this anymore. Re: Having a terrible time with winds at high alt. - pagir - 09-09-2005 This has been discussed before. It's a known Fs9 issue. Some softs will correct this (I think FSUIP???) This FS9 issue is the root of many overspeed problems. Did you try to varie your altitude? Pagir Nothing helped. - Fritz Bayerlein - 09-09-2005 I tried several altitude variations and nothing was making these vicious winds stop. Re: Having a terrible time with winds at high alt. - SWAFO - 09-09-2005 Do you have ASV? Do you use FSUIPC? Re: Having a terrible time with winds at high alt. - Fritz Bayerlein - 09-09-2005 I don't know what either of those things are. I need to start from square one, tell me what I need to do to fix this! Re: Having a terrible time with winds at high alt. - SaVas - 09-09-2005 FSUIPC is Peter Dowson's utility which is almost a necessity anymore since there are a lot of things that rely on it, however I believe for full functionality you need to pay for it (which I did a loooooooong time ago) ASV is a payware weather software program also known as Active Sky V Dont have the websites off hand but google should find both Re: Having a terrible time with winds at high alt. - SWAFO - 09-09-2005 FSUIPC has a feature that allows wind transitions to be smoothed. It works for me! Re: Having a terrible time with winds at high alt. - pegase - 09-09-2005 I don't have yet registered FSUIPC and must indeed lower my speed at cruise level of +- the half of the wind speed or ... accept the 600 points penalities (sometimes BOTH ![]() ex: your Vne is 330 and have changing winds og 90 kts => reduce speed at 280 kts. You can try "playing". an overspeed will occure when suddenly the wind come face to you. So if you have winds changing between 60 and 90 kts and have currently face to you at 90 kts then you can encrease your speed near to max, lets tell 320 for a Vne at 330. should the wind decrease to 60, reduce to 300, should it go side wind, reduce to 280. When the wind will get again face to you at 90, you will be near the 330 limit . Let the IAS decrease at 315-320 and then, if the wind keep face to you and strong apply some throttle to maintain this speed. It is a non stop cat/mouse game ![]() Re: Having a terrible time with winds at high alt. - Fritz Bayerlein - 10-09-2005 These wind change things only happen in areas that are dense, like a flight from San Fran to Calgary where are a million weather stations in between. I just did a flight to Honolulu from LAX and the wind changes were very subtle for the entire flight as they should be. Ugh. I sure which this FSUIPC Scheise didn't cost $30. Jeez. But I want to fly anyhere in the interior USA I might have to suck it up. Re: Having a terrible time with winds at high alt. - snakeboy - 10-09-2005 Get Active Sky you won't be dissapointed. You can also limit the number of cloud layers which can affect your frame rates. Re: Having a terrible time with winds at high alt. - SWAFO - 10-09-2005 I've heard of problems with the winds in ASV. Not too sure if they always occur though. |
