Boeing Canada announces Boeing Sonic Cruiser - Jetsgo - 21-08-2005

Boeing Winnipeg Named to the Sonic Cruiser Technology Development Team

Boeing Canada announced that it will further the research and production of the 250 Passenger Boeing Sonic Cruiser. The cruiser
is expected to travel at nearly the speed of sound, and will require a tottally new class of pilots.

The Sonic Cruiser is a new airplane concept unveiled by Boeing in March 2001. The airplane has a dramatic new configuration and is
designed to fly as fast as Mach 0.98, shortening travel times with fuel consumption per passenger comparable to today's best
performing widebody twinjets."We're very excited that the skills and expertise of the Winnipeg employees have been recognized and will
be used to help make this exciting airplane become a reality," said Mark Ross, general manager of the Winnipeg operation.

Boeing Canada Technology - Winnipeg is part of the Boeing Commercial Airplanes Fabrication Division and one of the three composite
manufacturing facilities that make up the Structural Composites Product Center within the division. Winnipeg manufactures composites
structures for 737, 747, 757, 767, and 777 aircraft. Major products include wing-to-body fairings, engine strut fairings, turbines and thrust
reverser blocker doors.

What do you think, is this the Concorde all over again?

Re: Boeing Canada announces Boeing Sonic Cruiser - Sovek - 21-08-2005

I hope not, the concorde was a disaster, but once a plane is made for FS Ill download it.

Re: Boeing Canada announces Boeing Sonic Cruiser - Jetsgo - 21-08-2005

Already made Smile http://www.fsimzone.com/new/downloads-TopRated.html

Re: Boeing Canada announces Boeing Sonic Cruiser - Jetsgo - 21-08-2005

just downloaded that model, it wasn't very good. Nevermind. I'd wait until it becomes more popular, then the experts will make good
models.

Re: Boeing Canada announces Boeing Sonic Cruiser - jboweruk - 21-08-2005

Concorde was not a disaster unless you were Air France. It was actually one of the safest aircraft ever built and didn't get a fair crack of
the whip. "wah it'll make a bang going over my head at twice the speed of sound. Wah don't let it!!!" And the Blackbird didn't??

Re: Boeing Canada announces Boeing Sonic Cruiser - SWAFO - 21-08-2005

If it's going to be flying at only M0.98, that doesn't offer TOO much improvement over todays aircraft. Regularly, I'll have a cruise speed of
M0.85 in the 737-700. Cruising at M0.98 would give us an extra 50-100MPH ground speed. Not too much IMHO.

Re: Boeing Canada announces Boeing Sonic Cruiser - James - 21-08-2005

Glad to hear Boeing are going to continue with the Sonic Cruiser project but I have a feeling they're only doing so to compete with the replacement
for the Concorde which was announced by France and Japan about 2 months ago I think. And as Brad pointed out, M0.98 isn't a huge improvement on the
average cruising speed and would not save THAT much on flight time. I think with todays technology France and Japan's project will be more of a
success and I'm confident they'll sort out the two major difficulties of fuel consumption and the sonic boom.

Re: Boeing Canada announces Boeing Sonic Cruiser - Jetsgo - 21-08-2005

Boeing Sonic's goal is not to improve flight time, although they do, its also to cut down on fuel. The Sonic Cruiser doesn't take up as
much fuel as alot of other passenger jets. Boeing also has to have an aircraft that will compete with the A380. (not that it at all measures
to the A380 in size, but Airbus is yet to announce a Sonic jet)

Re: Boeing Canada announces Boeing Sonic Cruiser - SWAFO - 21-08-2005

I'm waiting for the 787... that one looks promising!

Re: Boeing Canada announces Boeing Sonic Cruiser - Jetsgo - 21-08-2005

I don't like it lol

What's so new and great about it?

Re: Boeing Canada announces Boeing Sonic Cruiser - SWAFO - 21-08-2005

I just like the styling (interior and exterior), and the general concept. It's also supposed to feature a lot of little things that we as pilots like.
I.e. decreased cabin noise, new display types that even FURTHER increase situational awareness, etc.

Re: Boeing Canada announces Boeing Sonic Cruiser - Jetsgo - 21-08-2005

Ohhh. What do you think of the design of the Sonic Cruiser? If it didn't require a new pilot class, would you feel comfortable flying it?

Re: Boeing Canada announces Boeing Sonic Cruiser - Jetsgo - 21-08-2005

test

Re: Boeing Canada announces Boeing Sonic Cruiser - SWAFO - 21-08-2005

Yep, the sig works great!

Re: Boeing Canada announces Boeing Sonic Cruiser - Jetsgo - 21-08-2005

Haha Smile If only Jetsgo was still here Hunappy
