Can you "legally" divert to another airport? - Jetflyer - 07-10-2005

Uhm... sorry if this sounds stupid but I'm on a six hour flight and I thought I had loaded enough fuel on board the 767 but with very strong headwinds
and high fuel consumption I'm unsure that the plane will have enough fuel to get to its destination safely. Is it possible for me to inform the
passengers that I might have to land elsewhere or to set a different destination in flight?

Dan

what do you mean ? you're able to tell them you're diverting to another airport ?

I mean that passengers will be disatisfied to not land at the destination
but you'll get some bonus points for your pilot for taking a "non-popular"
but wise decision to divert.

lol so that bonus points are on negative one

Yes, you get positive and negative bonuses! lol

I'm not quite sure what they amount too, but let's hope the positive outweighs the negative (or is in a different field)... meaning, PAX
satisifaction is decreased when diverting, however pilot points go up!

I was wondering the same, except I got a leaking fuel tank... Thanks for bringing it up.

I got 20 pilot points and a little reduced rating when I diverted due to low fuel.

Re: Can you "legally" divert to another airport? - SWAFO - 11-10-2005

You should never have a low fuel situation... good planning is the key to avoiding such easily avoided mistakes.

It's OK I didn't in the end...I was just being a bit paranoid about its fuel consumption at lower altitude like 33,000ft before climbing up to
36,000ft. I landed with a good 25,000lbs on board.
