New help with something odd - American Jet - 15-11-2006

Lol, I usually dont ask these questions but I need a 3.2Ghz processor, and a 256-512mb RAM Card, and I dont know what I would type in.
Not that I dont trust anyone but it looks like the mods have top notch computers and stuff. SO I was wondering if someone could search
for one of these items on (circuitcity.com OR bestbuy.com). These stores are local and I could buy from them instead of some bazaar
shop in Texas or Canada. If you know about computers please try and look up these items(exclusively the moderators). I posted this in
the FsX forum because I trying to see if I can at LEAST try and get it up there. Also will someone look up the prices for the DX10 Nvidia
cards. The one that has the mininum MEGS would be ok. Thanks for all of your help and hopefully we will have our computers top notch
for FsX very soon!lol

Upgrading your PC can be complicated stuff for a novice. You can't just buy any old processor or any old graphics card and slap it in. First
you need to be sure that your motherboard can handle the upgrade. Any new graphics card worth its salts uses a PCI-Express port
instead of the older AGP port. If your computer is pretty old then chances are you won't be able to support PCI-Express, or even a 3GHz
processor.

Give us more specifications of your rig and maybe we can dig something up.

Haha, I wish. If you clock at 3000Ghz right now, why do you need 3.2GHz?

In reality, 3GHz is not the actual clock speed of 3000+. I interpret it to mean how fast it is comparable to an Intel Pent.4 at that clock speed.
There are a lot of other factors.

IMHO, the best processor out there nowadays in the Intel Core Duo Extreme. You will need a new motherboard, though, and ten years worth of salary.
However, a 2.6GHz one will probably be as about as fast as your current rig, and also faster than a Pent.4 at 3GHz.

Re: New help with something odd - Launchbury - 15-11-2006

With your current graphics card it looks like you're running an AGP graphics slot. I doubt that your mother board can support PCI-Express.
I recently rebuilt my machine after a mobo failure and picked up an AMD 3800+, Asus A8N32 Mobo, Seagate 300mb internal and a
Geforce 7600. It ran me about $700.

Because I think it went down lol, if thats even possible? I have a program called Everest and it says for CPU type:AMD Athlon XP,2166Mhz
(13 x 167)3000+. Lol any of you guys know what the heck that means?

Re: New help with something odd - Launchbury - 15-11-2006

It means that your Processor is an AMD Athlon XP 3000+ model, running at 2166MHz.

Re: New help with something odd - American Jet - 15-11-2006

So do I have a 3.1 processor or a 2.1 processor? And has someone looked for the 512 Ram thingy lol...

Re: New help with something odd - American Jet - 15-11-2006

lol,Can someone also look up the prices for the DX10 cards?

Re: New help with something odd - FsP Dennis - 15-11-2006

I can't remember where but i saw a site where they sold DX10 cards for $609.

Re: New help with something odd - WBHoenig - 15-11-2006

You have a 2.1GHz processor, but in reality, it would perform just as fast as an Intel Pent.4 at 3GHz in most benchmarks.

For the video card, always check Newegg!
The higher-end model is down a lot from last week, only $469: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130071

And you need more ram! To run Vista with Aero Glass, you need a gig, and I recommend at least that for FsX (probably a lot more). I guess I'm
hypocritical, because I'm running Vista (w/o Aero) on 768 Wink

Go to -> Start -> Run -> type DXDIAG find your processor and see how many GHz it got Wink

Will's answer was correct..

Lol I've been posting for someone to try and find a 512mb ram thingy...And can you put 2 512mb together to get a 1GB Ram, or do you
need to buy a complete 1 1GB ram. Can someone look up what I will be needing for a 1GB ram card at circuitcity.com or
bestbuy.com...leave the links on this page.
