FSX Working! - RonMac - 27-10-2006

I have always found that the more you boot up things, the more XP learns(??)

From stuttering, abysmal frame rates, I now have near to same frame rates that I had with Fs9.

I have set everything to approx where Fs9 was, and slowly FSX is coming better each flight.

I have now completed three major flights in default A321 that were pretty nice.

AS6.5 is supposed to work with FSX (yet to try), and stuff is coming together.

Of course with no FSP, sim seems empty!

I was jumped on landing by an MD80, so no change in ATC there!

What improvements I see are Scenery, and aircraft handling in weather...not so much 'on the rails' flights, but a more genuine bump and
grind through turbulance. (pass the sick bag)

A321 has, to me, a reasonable flight model, but APR not just as good as Fs9. OK, I usually take over at 1000ft + anyway on landing, so
not really an issue for me.

Loading times are a joke! I understand there is a fix to make this much quicker at cost of scenery rendition above 75 miles or so...seems
a fair trade off.

Default 737, I cannot get to handle well at all.

My home airport of Glasgow is better represented, with city landmarks that surprise me being in default.

So, by no means 100% or near it, but compared to first few days much much better.

P2.4, 5700Gforce, 2MB RAM

Re: FSX Working! - Airliner - 27-10-2006

Glad to hear your pc is "learning" FSX! lol

I just read a monster thread over at flightsim.com about OCing the Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego, so I tried it. Pushed her from 2.45GHz up
to 2.65GHz and saw about 5 FPS more - not a lot but, enough to matter when it's going from 10 to 15. Honestly though, 10 seems rather
do-able with this version. Of course, 30 is better! Smile Kicked on the overdrive on my 9800XT also so, I think that helped. Not a lot of difference from my generic 1GB of PC3200 to my Corsair XMS 2GB though. I think the bottleneck now is the 256MB graphics card - that or the 8x AGP.

And while I'm at it, I recall asking JayKae about whether a jetway would align with your aircraft even if you parked all stupid. He said that
you needed to be properly aligned first. Well, check it out!

DOH! Took forever for the thing to come out - wiggling back and forth but, I'm docked! lol

Hope it's not raining when your pax leave the A/C, though... Wink

Re: FSX Working! - Airliner - 27-10-2006

"This is your Captain speaking. On behalf of the crew, we would like to thank you for flying with us today. Sorry about the parking job -
that's our drunken co-pilot. Just stay to the left as you exit and you shouldn't get TOO wet."

lol

Just as a side note (this is VERY random!), why is it that so many people stumble out of the aircraft? Sometimes, when I had to meet the
aircraft at the end of the jetway, I'd marvel at how many people almost fell through the doorway. It's like the flight attendants spun them
around a few times before letting them through! Smile

Re: FSX Working! - JayKae - 27-10-2006

When I answered the question you asked me it was based on BETA 3 not the final product Smile My BETA 3 still does not allow docking as
you have it in your pic, my full retail version does so.. yeh that sucks lol

Re: FSX Working! - RonMac - 28-10-2006

Thanks for replies.

Big thanks for Pic. Explains a little as to why my Passengers are having to 'hike it', pilot has neither the skill or wish to make it easy for
them!

Seriously, the 'learning XP' is not as daft as it sounds. After I close Fsx session, it takes a good minute for system to 'unlearn' memory
allocatiions and video card takes a deep breath! (g)

I have frame locked at 18 fps, and we are managing, my 'puter and I, to get back into the world of FS. I have had a wee break for last few
months from sims, kept reading this and avsim forums, but not really simmed at all.

I am now going to back up FS9 on my external HD, and leave FSX on its own.

Manual and experience tell you that Shift Enter / Backspace change eye view. Only CNTRL+Q and CNTRL+Spacebar change my
eyepoint. I reassigned the keys to Shift Enter but with no success.....it could be my Saitek EVO playing silly buggers with its magic mouse
and keyboard that it insists on unstalling with J/S.

Now 7 flights in with A321, sitting a Schipol, Scenery around Dense, wee trucks running about, all looks very nice. I am going to NIce,
France..good eye candy approach here. I have already managed Innsbruck both arriving and leaving. Still 'hairy'

Re: FSX Working! - flameout - 28-10-2006

Thanks to all the honest guinea pigs out there, some of us with conservative pockets have held off from the purchase of fx10.

It is almost like microsoft makes this software to manipulate people into having to buy new computers and windows systems.

Is Bill Gates this desperate to rob the poor so he can be the big philanthopist in the public eye?

I might buy it eventually, but I have add ons like PMDG an fs pax which I enjoy that I could not in fx10.

Thanks for your honesty about fx 10

So Not Worth Getting, Becaise I Have Sold My FS9 Fot This..But Hey, I'l Still Get It ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Re: FSX Working! - DBE - 28-10-2006

Hehe: reminds me of the time my wife and myself flew to Kenia (approx. 7 years ago).

The charter was a Belgian company, CityBird (which went bust since then).

I remember standing at the lounge window, as I always do when waiting to embark, watching our aircraft taxi to the gate: it came closer and closer and
closer and suddenly slammed on its brakes; problem was: the aft door was already far ahead of the finger dock...

I can just imagine that pilot desperately searching for the slew "button".. Wink

A bit of premature pushback finally solved the day.

Scotty,

No. Worth getting!

As I complete each flight in A321 I learn more, and frame rates are now as good as I had on Fs9.

I am not seeing a vast change in eye candy, but there are differences. The missions are fun..chasing elephants across Kenya for one!

Flight model of 321 is IMHO better than many I have seen.

MY landings are scary, but I am prepared to accept that its my piloting skills!!

Getting better.

We have to be realistic in what our rigs can support. My 2.4 and Gforce 5700 are being pushed. Yet, I now have special effects at 3/4's,
scenery dense, cars 30%, water *1, bloom OFF, and real world weather..not done AS6 upgrade yet.

I am using FsFx in same way as Fs9, flying my routes, but in A321.

FSP is greatly missed as we all know, and we all look forward to Dans upgrade.

So, if you got it, use it, indeed flaunt it!

Re: FSX Working! - Airliner - 29-10-2006

Personally, I like it for the mission editor. I just made a pile of audio checklists yesterday. Next step is to make a generic airline flight
which calls them all at the right times. After that, a small program to let you change the O & D and you'll have checklists for any flight. I'll
post a link when it's done.
