Need to know how to increase engine power - P-ATC - 16-11-2007 I know this is more of a FS than a FSX issue but it limits one of my planes. It works well in normal FS but loaded with pax an cargo i can't get above 90kts in 3200m of runway. The load and pax are within limits, but the plane just can't accelerate. No idea why. Can anyone point me in the right direction? It is an old busted ass Russian plane, but seen them depart over these distances IRL. Re: Need to know how to increase engine power - Leftcoaster - 16-11-2007 Heh, heh, heh. This is getting to be a habit! Are you sure that this is not a prop pitch, condition or fuel problem? If a turbo prop, has it cycled out of the beta range? Could there be some unidentifed scenery issue affecting the flight model's ground resistance? Are there gust locks or some panel device preventing the application of full power? Anyway, altering power in FS9 is easy enough but one should beware because changing one value in an aircraft.cfg file can sometimes have unintended performance effects. Use with caution... Backup the original or rem out the stock line using ; or // Example for a piston engine or turbo prop, in this case from the aircraft.cfg from the SAMDIM AN-22 modified for FS9. Scroll down the file until you get to the [TURBOPROP_ENGINE] section and amend the line "power scaler" line. [TURBOPROP_ENGINE] ;power_scalar=1.0 power_scaler=1.1 maximum_torque=10614.3602 max_rpm_mechanical_efficiency_scalar=1.000 idle_rpm_mechanical_efficiency_scalar=1.000 max_rpm_friction_scalar=1.000 idle_rpm_friction_scalar=1.000 The changes in red should now give you 110% rated power. For jets it's a bit different. This is from the David Maltby's superb Comet 4 but I wanted to de-rate the engines from Avon's to Ghost's for a Comet 1 model. This change gives me a more representitive performance and removes the thrust reversers. [TurbineEngineData] fuel_flow_gain= 0.003 ;inlet_area= 9.000 inlet_area= 8.300 rated_N2_rpm= 7750.000 static_thrust= 8500.000 ;static_thrust= 9800.000 afterburner_available= 0 ;reverser_available=1 reverser_available= 0 One piece of advice when editing aircraft.cfg files, do not change more than one variable at a time and test each change for unwanted side effects or unusual gauge readings. Be warned, I'm just a novice at editing aircraft.cfg files but much of what I have learned to date has come from the forum at: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/ Good Luck Re: Need to know how to increase engine power - P-ATC - 16-11-2007 Thanks, i'll do that. It's a jet so things like prop pitch and mixture, carb heat, not an instrument failure. The plane simply won't get up to speed. Sea level, normal temps and pressures. I'll try use the methods you suggested. I'd really like to get it to work. I'm trying to start up a slightly dodgey African based airline lying not so kosher flights into war zones and the like. Re: Need to know how to increase engine power - Joeflyer - 20-11-2007 I recently spent some time flying around Africa. I love flying into and out of DNAA. The last time my 777 got shot all to crap. But, I made $79 million and then sold the scrapped Boeing Re: Need to know how to increase engine power - darrinward777 - 17-02-2015 Re-set the static thrust rating Example : static_thrust= 8500.000 ;static_thrust= 9800.000 Reset to a higher level but note how it was originally set in case you want to go back to original settings. I also noticed you have reverse available but set to = 0 . You will want to set it to =1 Try static_thrust=9500 ;static_thrust=10800 Re: Need to know how to increase engine power - Joeflyer - 17-02-2015 Shame on you Darrin for dredging up a 7+ year old thread. I thought you read the forum rules about necro posting Let's stay with more recent threads, agree? Post Edited ( 02-17-15 18:40 ) Re: Need to know how to increase engine power - darrinward777 - 17-02-2015 Sorry, But I see guests are still reading them and I thought it might help someone having the same issues. I always like to help simmers doing our hobby. With the release of steam we can get new simmers off to the races. I put a thread in General FSX to help the new guys/ gals learn what they can do to make FSX more enjoyable. Re: Need to know how to increase engine power - Joeflyer - 17-02-2015 No problem and I understand that you are trying to help, but let's be mindful of the old threads that are being revived |
