Dumbest thing ever? Wow... that would have to be the afternoon I spent back in 1997 with FS95 landing in Soldier Field in a 182. Getting in wasn't too
hard... but trying to get it back out was. I think I spent about five hours at work one day (I worked part-time at Egghead Software while I was in the
Marines) trying to do that. I never did make it out, but what was even dumber was Mr. Jeppeson (of Jeppeson and Sanderson) came into the store and
watched me try for a few attempts. He tells me, "There's no way you can get out of there," and me, in my infinite wisdom say to him, "Nah, I think I
can do it." He shook his head and walked away. I had met him a few times before (he lived not too far from our store and would come in for software
from time to time), and he was a really nice guy, but I think I made a HUGE ass of myself to someone who knows better.

FS95: $50
Computer: $1700
Telling an aviation legend you can do something he tells you is impossible (and he turns out to be right): Priceless.

I have got most of you beat, i now have accidentally erased 2 of my pilots with the stupid airlines (Delta) with a combined hour/point rating
of 63hrs/4700points total. So now after having all of that experience under my belt you would think that I know how to land a 737-800
Winglet departing KTPA and Arriving in KFLL under light rain conditions, WRONG!!!! I get my ILS approach lined up perfect and my decent
rate was beautiful coming in right over the beach, I had my flaps out right, but despite all of my perfections being the 1D10T that I am I
FORGOT TO LOWER THE LANDING GEAR I'm stupid !!! Well needless to say when FS9 & FSP told me I crashed I was a little confused
untill I looked at my panel and saw that my landing gear was up Worry Wall . I guess thats why in real life that you have a co-pilot to
remind you of stuff like that when your mind decides to play funny tircks on you.

You know the old scenario where you start typing in the chat box, only to find your cursor isn't there and you hose up an otherwise-stable
cockpit? Well, I was SHOUTING at somebody in [All Caps] for some reason I don't recall, and in the process, opened the door (Shft-E)
and decompressed at about 32K'. Dumb move. Always check your focus when chatting in the box!

Yep, I did the same thing when was flying online except I lowered the landing gear. haha

I don't know if everyone else gets this but my thing is coming into land after a long flight, passengers at 100% happy, doing all approach /landing
checks, keeping an eye on the passenger percentage and the co-pilot reading out 2500, yes I going to make this perfect. My hands on the yoke and
throttles start to shake, I get butterflies while thinking of getting that perfect landing.

Everything is going so well, no excess speed flap warnings, coming into make the perfect landing, then CRASH.

What did I forget?

The landing gear!

Darn it, lets try that again.

This is a kinda funny... i was landin at Newark liberty intl new jersey and there was no one online on the atc so i was 5nm of the airport all ready
140knots flaps... well 3nm and tha atc guy call me(he just got online) and tell me to contact him... and tell me to go around Fool so i did but the
guy was having communication problems and he told to go up to 2500(airport heaight is(11) so i go around and everything and when i turn to final i as
like 5nm away from the airport at 2500 the atc was kinda begginer so i was like o crap need to go down so i did but i think went toooo down i was
going 20degrees down wow by the time i was in the rwy i was in the middle of it and i was 250knots by the time i touched the two motor crash agains the
rwy and the gears breaks Wall... so if this happens to ya go around again...

Well...
I had planned a flight from Helsingfors (Helsinki) in Finland to Warzaw (Polen) with my A318 with no thoughts about that a city could have more than 1
airport. I realized that when the ATC told me to make a visual approach... I was wondering why, so I checked the flight map and saw that I had made my
flightplan to a little tiny tiny runway, few nm from the international big one... Wall And of course I had also set the destination in FSP, so I
had to do nothing else than land, and I landed with very satisfied passengers Smile
The best thing is then that in the next flight with a b767 I did the same mistake over again but crashed because the wings was to big Grrr Wall
(sorry for the English)

I did my flight planner from Erfurt to frankfurt Main. However I was also toying with going into Hannover and accidentally programmed the
wrong airport into my fsp destination. Fool

Then I finally gets into EDDF after 40m of block time and managed to get in safely after some real FUN on approach and found my way to
the gate at this massive airport. I close down and all disembark and I get the FSP report up, only 78%! WHY because I'd landed at the
wrong aiport lol I'm stupid

Re: Dumbest thing you ever did in flight. - P-ATC - 19-11-2007

Dumbest as it "oops wrong button" is miss enough calls on the ATC to have my IFR terminated about 10 hours into a 12 hour flight. I then
proceeded to "file in air" and you know that little screen that pops up and says "Move aircraft to starting airfield?" I clicked yes.

D'oh.

The latest misshap was while flying a Boeing Sonic Cruiser (this is a sweet ass little plane, even if it does cost 250 million : ) ) I started
the decent with 700nm left, F650. Thinking 800ft/min was too slow I kicked it up to 3000ft/min and my passenger fear shot up to 100%
due to my aerobatics Smile I had like a 5 % nose down attitude.

Fortunately that was just a test flight to see if I needed to get my companies money up that high.

My latest misshap that cost me 3% of my airline rating was on that trans Atlantic crossing I spoke about in the other topic. had to divert to
Cape Verde from San Fran to Cape Town because I was gonna gun outta gas aroun 1500nm short of destination. What idiot worked out
those numbers Smile Then I bent the landing gear anyway Smile

On FS/FS Passengers...
Had just started a competition between some friends, beginning with a small company. My first purchase was a HEAVILY used Embraer
Legacy. Taking off from Frankfurt, climbing thru 2500 ft MSL, switched on the AP and hopped up to grab some food real quick. Halfway
down the stairs I heard all sorts of alarms and bells going off. When I got back to the computer, the plane was pitched up 40+ degrees
and stalling....I had forgotten to press the SPD selector after engaging the AP.

In real life...nothing too serious, getting lost at an airport because the guy kept saying directions instead of just taxiways...its a lot easier to
read back bravo four, foxtrot, charlie, juliet, juliet one to the ramp, instead of straight on bravo four, left on foxtrot, right on charlie, left on
juliet, left on juliet one, and the ramp will be be ahead and to your left. I kinda sat there for a second "uhhh, alright...that was a left on bravo
four, right on fox...oh screw it, repeat please."

And over reacting due to wildlife on the runway...stupid coyote's.

Re: Dumbest thing you ever did in flight. - captain737 - 24-12-2007

took a fokker 70 out to a small strip in the himalayas, got a left engine fail and decided to land in a grass strip called luluka or some
kinda crap like that. bad idea. SMALL GRASS STRIP, mountain on three sides (sheer cliff). ran outta runway, why? reversers were dead
because engine was dead(i forgot) spin out left , smash into cliff

Re: Dumbest thing you ever did in flight. - captain737 - 24-12-2007

was trying to check fuel level and hit the little teeny tiny button on the copilots side taht says hydraulic pressure release! fuel and hydraulic
dup! loss of everything, elevators, engines, airelons, rudder, flaps, engines!!!!!!! i feel like the ua flight 232

In memory of all who died in the sioux city united flight 232 crash

Re: Dumbest thing you ever did in flight. - captain737 - 24-12-2007
