Re: Dumbest thing you ever did in flight. - Cydon Prax - 14-02-2006 Im a boeing fan no doubt; but with the airbus on A/P, touching the flight controls does'nt turn off the autopilot. Good for normal non- emergency flights, no doubt! PSS A330 is so great to fly XD Re: Dumbest thing you ever did in flight. - GeoBauG - 14-02-2006 I was just testing out a new plane, leveled it off at 33k for a two hour journey, and went to grab a drink. I came back to see the doors were open, the flaps were fully extended, and I was 5kts away from a stall. I'm not sure exactly what happened in my absence, but I feel that the Ghost of Versions Passed that wants to screw with us. Re: Dumbest thing you ever did in flight. - Jetflyer - 14-02-2006 Every time I land the Level-d 767 it's a dumb thing because I can't land it for sh*t. My landing at SFO just now involved 50.....40.......30.....30....40.....30....20.....(half way down the runway)....30.......20....10....CRUNCH...BOUNCE.......*Pause as plane bounces headlong into the air*......30.....20.....10.......(*&^*$%$%&£$&££$&@@@@BANG...."Now that was a hard landing"....(some 2,000ft of runway left to stop).....huge braking action...GROAN CREAK..........brake disks melting....."Ladies and gentlemen we have arrived at our destination on behalf of blah blah...". "My Level-D Landing" Post Edited ( 02-14-06 23:58 ) Re: Dumbest thing you ever did in flight. - RonMac - 15-02-2006 Take Off??? Re: Dumbest thing you ever did in flight. - DavidPowell - 15-02-2006 Noticed an engine overheating yesterday and switched off as I could not slow one engine on it's own. About the same time the other engine flamed out. Fine for a 747, not good for an A330. Eventually managed to get one engine going (I tihnk perhaps I shut down the wrong engine) and a rather bumpy landing! Hey ho. Good for normal non- Rog, It is normal for it to kick off if you move the controls too quickly. I know that most if not all autopilots allow for small ajustments at the flight controls, but major adjustments disconect the auto pilot. That's so that if the pilot needs to make a sudden correction he can do so without fighting the autopilot who is a whole lot stronger. ![]() Re: Dumbest thing you ever did in flight. - Anastasios - 15-02-2006 yes, ninja is correct the a/p should switch off automatically when using the controls. It's a safety.....'thing' Tasos. Re: Dumbest thing you ever did in flight. - Cydon Prax - 15-02-2006 For Boeing, yes. Have you tried any payware Fly-By-Wire Airbus's? They don't allow it.. I might be worng, but im going by the guys who I payed money's word. (Boeing however I know do allow these changes) Re: Dumbest thing you ever did in flight. - Usty - 17-02-2006 TouchDownVertSpeedFt: -26.15 ft/mn (kiss) First they wonded why I turnded off the engines, but now they just refuse to disembark because they don't beleve we landed yet. So they are still wayting patiently for a tuchdown........ ![]() Re: Dumbest thing you ever did in flight. - Jetflyer - 17-02-2006 TouchDownVertSpeedFt: -4.6ft/mn (kiss) Now that's a smooth landing ![]() Re: Dumbest thing you ever did in flight. - GeoBauG - 17-02-2006 Oh yeah? I got +5.0ft/mn! Beat that! :p G Re: Dumbest thing you ever did in flight. - WBHoenig - 17-02-2006 So you flew from the underworld to somewhere above? Or did have a freak belly landing where you sank into the ground but rose up again and it calculated that speed? Or a bug? Re: Dumbest thing you ever did in flight. - Cydon Prax - 17-02-2006 landing on a hill/mountain... Re: Dumbest thing you ever did in flight. - GeoBauG - 17-02-2006 I'll never tell. It's my own special brand of landing magic. G |
