Re: WORLDS MOST POPULAR AIRLINE 2004-2005 RESULTS - nem - 21-07-2005 Nice chart regarding biggest airlines (numbers from 2002 though): http://www.chrisruzin.net/index.php/entry/worlds_biggest_airlines/ Re: WORLDS MOST POPULAR AIRLINE 2004-2005 RESULTS - SWAFO - 21-07-2005 That seems right. I would also think that the airlines that carry the most PAX would also be the most popular. Re: WORLDS MOST POPULAR AIRLINE 2004-2005 RESULTS - nem - 21-07-2005 You could argue along that line, but once again, the subject of this thread is misleading... it was about customer satisfaction. I mean, of course Windows is the most widespread OS on the desktop market. And of course, largely due to this, it's also the most popular one. But I at least would have a hard time believing that it's also the OS which yields the highest customer satisfaction... ![]() Re: WORLDS MOST POPULAR AIRLINE 2004-2005 RESULTS - psolk - 21-07-2005 Not necessarily... I fly Continental all the time because I fly out of KEWR. Fact is they carry a lot of passengers but I would not call them popular. A lot of us say all the time in this area, they are really our only choice. So they carry ALOT of passengers in/out of NY but that does not make them popular ![]() the crews are almost always exceptional but they still only have only a businessfirst, no first class and businees section and their seats do not go flat. You jsut can not compare them on International flights especially when some of thise tickets are pushing 6 thousand dollars for a round trip flight. Fact is though, most of the time they have 10-12 flights a day to locations where other carriers will only have one a day because they monopolize Newark. So it is not necessarily popularity as it is necessity sometimes... Just a thought, -Paul Re: WORLDS MOST POPULAR AIRLINE 2004-2005 RESULTS - rchwallace - 21-07-2005 Haha...... Well I have to put in a plug for my employer.......... Though many of the American airlines are larger in fleet size and possibly in passengers carried........ Cathay's service is definitely top notch. Since I am from Canada and have travelled many different airlines I speak from personal experience when I say that there is a marked difference in the service on Cathay and that of many North American or European carriers. Many people dont realize but our fleet is around 100 aircraft.... and they all carry roughly 300 pax. Our smallest regional aircraft is an airbus A330, we carry over 40,000 passengers a day.......... and the one thing which many of you have not looked at but which would not factor in the survey at all........... we make a profit year after year. Last year even with the high fuel prices our profit was roughly 520M US. So after saying that a comment on the politics of aviation, if you look at Skytrax web site, they provide a "service" which means it is possible that airlines have to pay to have their airline subject to the survey. Most North American airlines would in my opinion not do this because they do not need to. There is a great deal of exposure for these airlines already and the domestic market in the states would not be influenced by such awards..... this is of course only theory........... maybe a little bit of conspiracy theory........... Re: WORLDS MOST POPULAR AIRLINE 2004-2005 RESULTS - psolk - 21-07-2005 RC, I agree that Cathay's service is definitely top notch., From my personal experience my top three in no particular order because the service on all of them is so exceptoinal would be Virgin, Cathay and Singapore. There are times my seat in first class is nicer than my hotel room ![]() International travel... I heard Lufthansa already has high speed broadband on their flights to JFK. I have also heard Continental is looking into a 3 class configuratoin on the 777 with a true First class again. That would be nice. 16 hours to Hong Kong on a seat that does not lay flat is no fun!!!! -Paul Re: WORLDS MOST POPULAR AIRLINE 2004-2005 RESULTS - Joel - 21-07-2005 Lawrence is in this forum ![]() Re: WORLDS MOST POPULAR AIRLINE 2004-2005 RESULTS - SWAFO - 22-07-2005 When I think of most popular airline, I think of the one the most people have heard of... not necessarily the one that offers the best service. More people have heard of American than Cathay, and that's simply because American flies more people. If the PAX fly American because there's no other choice, then that's the way it is. They're still, overall the most popular, yet they're far, far from the best service. Re: WORLDS MOST POPULAR AIRLINE 2004-2005 RESULTS - rchwallace - 22-07-2005 I can understand what you are saying about the "most popular" but the survey was basically a "personality contest" if you like or a "fasion pagent" either way, I would not ever disagree that AA or UA are huge and popular airlines....... but funny you say that more people have heard of AA than CX..... depends where you are of course. Because I am in HK I would have to hint at the other. I dont think AA has a Hong Kong service....... ![]() same as when in Singapore........ it is all Singapore, when in the states AA and the others have a HUGE precense (sp?). Cathay only flies into LAX, SFO, JFK, ORD, ANC (PANC) at the moment and ORD is only our freighter so we definitely do not have much of a showing in the states......... To go back to Pauls comment about continental and the HK service I assume you are flying out of KORD. Cause if out of JFK you can now go direct with the flats in FC. Cheers Ron Post Edited ( 07-22-05 05:57 ) Re: WORLDS MOST POPULAR AIRLINE 2004-2005 RESULTS - nem - 22-07-2005 I think Ron has a point here. Just go to Usbekistan and ask someone which is the more polular: AA or CX - he'll probably just stare blankly at you. Or stab you whith a pointy stick or whatever. I mean, AA might be extremely well-known in the US, but in the rest of the world - well, not more than any other national airline. ("National" not in the sense of "only serving one nation" but rather "originating from one particular nation", and yes, in that sense about all airlines are "national"). Based on my recent flight with them, I wouldn't fly AA again if they gave me free tickets (which by the way they will not give out, even if they lose your luggage TWICE on the same flight (yes, it's evidently possible)).
