Re: FsPassengers for FSX official note and please ! - csebal - 20-02-2008 Well, first of all, let me congratulate you to your project. Based from what i've seen here, it really seems to add a lot to an otherwise purely sim game. Too bad it is not out yet (for FSX that is). Which there might be a reason for, two words: Feature creep. To get any kind of development done, you must get a clear goal ahead of you and make a point in development after which you stop taking new ideas - at least stop implementing them - until you reach your goal. If you fail to do that, you end up adding more and more and more stuff to your program and never getting to the point where it is actually finished. So while lots of what you have been discussing on the last few pages sound awesome to me, i seriously think that you should be setting priorities and get the thing working first, before adding new features to it. Just a friendly advice from a fellow software developer. Summarized: while these fancy ideas are nice, i'm sure a lot more people would be a lot happier to PLAY FSP with FSX than to READ about an FSP they do not have yet, no matter how awesome it WILL BE. :P Just keep that in mind m8. Peace, have a nice day. Re: FsPassengers for FSX official note and please ! - Theo - 21-02-2008 My personal take on smuggling/illegal flights: They sound quite fun, really. Though a simple meter of whether you're a known smuggler or not shouldn't be the basis for getting caught, really. If notoriety were the only factor in capturing criminals we'd have far many more behind bars. I like the idea of it being based more in avoiding major airports. Perhaps detecting the proximity to other planes as well? You'd be forced to land in small strips away from traffic.. Maybe a bonus for hiding for doing it at night with no lights? Little things like that could make it much more exciting. Flying low and without lights... Landing at small grass strips and dumping cargo, and then leaving before you get noticed at the strip... That'd be awesome. ^^ I do have to agree, I don't want to see feature creep but if it won't slow down the release much, by all means. About other idea look good. Night and no light for example may give a "stealth bonus?" It's not so evident, in some country of course flying low with no light may give you more chance but in some other it may be the better way to have everyone looking at you as suspect. I'll see this at the meaning time. About wind I'll look also. To csebal : Thanks for advice, I know well the trap of big project, I spent almost 10 years of my 20 years programming experience falling into them ![]() About FsPX I spent most time (and I still spend time) to simply recover features of FsP and deal with FsX specific. Wasn't (and isn't) easy. The new features is not what take me the most time and I know where I want to go exactly. (mean not all what is suggested will be done) Imho FsP was well balanced and fun, FsPX will have some more feature for better ease of use and more enjoyment but I'll not rewrite it completely. (in fact adapating it mean a LOt of rewrite already) I know some will be disapointed to not have a complete new addon, a complete economic managment or whatewer but for an addon FsP(X) have already a LOT of features. (some addons do announcment, some reports, career, some penalties, some failures etc but at my knowledge FsP is the only one to propose all that in same time, adding much more would make it confuse and out of its scope) UPDATE: Float aircraft will not need cfg editing anymore (for parking brake) and water is now detected, heli will be flyable without cfg editing BUT will still remain not fully supported (mean several feature will be disabled) Wow... just recovered something strange with helli and FsX's payload calculus... pfeeew. Dan Post Edited ( 02-21-08 06:33 ) Re: FsPassengers for FSX official note and please ! - Flying Monkey - 21-02-2008 I agree with the other guys about overspeed and the wind, in FSX it's going to be a serious trouble, currently I get a lot of overspeed situation, and if you're not lucky you also get problems with the 250 kts limit under 10 000 feet, a sudden wind shift and you're 20 kts above it or worse. So, if a timer system is too hard to implement, I'd just be happy to de activate the penalty if the wind shifts ruin my scores everytime. Anyway, that's totally true Dan, you're the only one to release an addon that does so many different things in the same time. It is a feature that I appreciate A LOT, because with all the different kind of addon features that can be added to FSX, it can sometimes become a pain to launch a flight: for the ATC, you have to launch RC, for the weather ASX, then add some various tools like YAGET etc... So it's really wonderful that with FSP I actually setup in the same time the fleet, carreer manager, my co pilot/cabin crew, failure manager etc just in one go. This is something that should be emphasized a lot for your advertising, FsPassengers bring so much more than passengers - it's hard to summarize all the features in a short sentence and I'm not into marketing, but this should make any customer think "yes, if I buy this product I will have everything I ever wanted excepted the ATC and the weather", and at that price then it should be obvious that FsP is the number one addon to buy before anything else ![]() Re: FsPassengers for FSX official note and please ! - flylondon - 21-02-2008 Hi Dan, About the illegal flights - great idea. How about, when the plane flys into a country with less police and population like a small island or a big ocean, there is less chance of being caught. Becuase lets face it, Your not really going to get caught if your flying in the middle of the Pacific or over Antartica! ![]() ![]() Re: FsPassengers for FSX official note and please ! - DaNuTzZu - 21-02-2008 Holla! spero que ablas y espanol porque io no ablo mui bien ingles.Queda mucho tiempo para fsX? Espero que me respuendes porfavor. How much time left? ![]() Re: FsPassengers for FSX official note and please ! - jeffreycor - 21-02-2008 Small clarification question if you happen to have the time at some point. When you say "Float aircraft will not need cfg editing anymore (for parking brake) and water is now detected, heli will be flyable without cfg editing BUT will still remain not fully supported (mean several feature will be disabled)" will the problem encountered with FSP that some helis have $0 and generate an error when trying to use them be addressed in FSPX? I am so looking forward to your addon ![]() Re: FsPassengers for FSX official note and please ! - Ali310 - 22-02-2008 Quote:DaNuTzZu wrote: Hola. Bienvenido al foro! Espero que disfrutes el FsP. Re: FsPassengers for FSX official note and please ! - Badapp1e - 22-02-2008 This talk about Dan spending valuable time trying to fix a penalty because of the wind problem at altitude is another case where dreaming of stuff to cram into a good program can cause the product to not be released in a timely manner. I agree with "csebal." The goal must be attained first. Any additional nice to have dream come true should come out in an update, service pack or what ever else you would like to call it. Getting to my point: Most if not nearly all of the people using Flight Simulator have a legitimate or in alot of cases a ill-legitimate copy of Peter Dowson's FSUIPC. For FSX that is FSUIPC4. On page 15 of the users guide, it specifically tells a person how to nearly eliminate the gusty, sudden change in direction, jet streaming winds that give you the penalty for speeding. Isn't that amazing? Its already been thought over and and option for it as well. People just need to READ what has been given to them rather than have someone else cure somthing thats already been addressed. Besides that.......... A real pilot would never get the penalty anyway. Why? Because if you have correctly completed your flight planning you will stay away from altitudes that the "jet stream" or severe winds aloft reside. Its gonna happen sometimes people, can you handle that? Sometimes in real life it happens also. No matter how much flight planning a crew might do, sometimes they still get into severe turbulance. And the passengers do what? They still complain about the pilots flying them into turbulance. So realistically, Dan shouldn't try to stop that from happening heh? But then again some people want unrealistic things like the humanitarian flights into a war zone which would never ever happen. As a combat pilot of two conflicts (war) I think I know what I am talking about. But then again.... some people need to have that "feeling" of hope and change that will free men from evil. Come on people, the suggestion time should be over. Dan needs to get this product out as a solid add-on so he can get rich and retire like the dude from FSNavigator did. (Or is he in a German jail?) (He is a citizen of Germany you know) In short ----- the wind problem isn't a problem if you use FSUIPC4. Don't write back stating that not all people have FSUIPC. We live in a democracy. Majority wins. Minorities wine and cry until they get what they want which would be an update. And don't lie and tell me most people don't have FSUIPC because you would be lying. I don't know for sure but I would venture to say at least 40% of all people using FSUIPC are using un-registered versions or versions that are registered to another persons name. (All of you Captain Jack Sparrow people know what I am talking about) Alot of you people are posting stuff in this forum and you haven't paid a dime to Dan for the previous version. COME ON people, help Dan get his #1 product out. Not delayed.......... There is nothing wrong with helping our fellow man in a time of crises. But it is stupid, just plain stupid to try and do something that is impossible to do. GET OFF YOUR POLITICS ! ! ! This is a FSPassengers forum. Not a stage for your "Utopia with Obama." Re: FsPassengers for FSX official note and please ! - plumbob86 - 22-02-2008 Not everyone has FSUIPC... Re: FsPassengers for FSX official note and please ! - DBE - 22-02-2008 Badapp1e: no need to insult other members. And please practice what you preach... Re: FsPassengers for FSX official note and please ! - jeffreycor - 22-02-2008 So Badapple your solution to the wind problem many have is to spend an additional $25+ to purchase another add-on to correct a penalty that this one generates? This makes no sense what so ever and completely beyond any degree of reasonableness. |
