Full Version: posibility of flying fsp together?

Let me explain. Suppose I am developing a new Virtual Airline. You know... there are real people flying birds arround the world to
simulate the real airline or just an invention one.
In Fsp, we create an airline.. and for example we can start with 3 aircraft. I know that we can fly one and the other 2 let the program fly for
me, so I earn money from my flight and also from the 2 more flights.

But my question, and sure you know which one will be.... is: instead of flying the computer the other two planes, can fsp share the
information with other 2 people and be three (or more. More pilots in my V.A. to fly that 3 planes) people that they fly them.

I don't know if it is possible or not. Maybe a thing like that is very difficult to implement inside the program. Don't know. Maybe to share the
information of the 3 flights is just copy a simple file at the end of your flight (of course flying the 2 more people after you). Or just can be
edited by hand. Don't know.

If so.... Expecial prices for V.A. of FSP? hehe :P (sure is cheap now)
The answer is: it's possible but not in a simple manner,

let me explain:

I planned during a long time to do exporting and importing database function so VA could use
this feature to share the database along it's members...I even started to do those functions,

Then I had somes discussion with VA president and somes others
peoples than stopped the development for several reason:

1-Doing the code I saw that I started a very difficult things that could take me month before being user-proof, secured and simple.
2-A VA that would use FsP would become a "payware" VA (anyone have to buy FsP) wich is the contrary of VA philosophy.
3-Only a few people would be intterested to make a VA that fly exclusively with FsP.

Considering the positive point and the negative (a lot of dev time for a few peoples intterested) I stopped the dev of that.

This said, if a VA or somes friend want to fly FsP together, it's possible with a bit of work
The main limitation is that you can't fly in the same time otherwise the database would be wrong.:

1-make a fly with your pilot.
2-zip the database, put it on a site or send it by mail to other users
3-the other guy unzip the database in it's folder
4-restart to point 1

Someone that would render the things really cool can make a site in PHP where members are allowed
to upload/download the shared database, when a guy download it to make a fly the database download is "locked"
until the guy finished it's fly and upload the new database with his fly or after a time limit.

We have a system like that on my Orbiter site for Orbiter "scenario", when one download the scenario
the download is locked until he come back and upload it with his new flight or until time-limit expire.

Hope my explanation are clear enough ?

Of course if FsP is a planetary sucess and a must with thousand people flying with it and requesting this function
I may later reconsider the things and develop the "import/export" function but I have big doubt that would happen.
(best sales of 2002 best add-ons were about 4000 copy only wich in this case would hardly even pay me back
for my one years work)

yes sure is like you say...

Another thing.. is your The orbiter simulator?.. Man.. thats great!!!!!
Have some times, flight with that sim. Remember a game call "Shuttle" from vektor grafix and selled by virgin games for PC in 2 1.44
disks? I still have the game. It had a poster with all the panels of the space shuttle!!! increible game it was.
Orbiter close me to that game, but still waiting for a real simulator with all the buttons etc!!!

hard core space simulation.

Great for Orbiter!!
I didn't program Orbiter but my add-ons for it are on the top best...
About Orbiter it's a freeware simulator that exist since 4 years
programmed by a PhD the good doctor Schweiger...
Be prepared for a steep learning curve as said the good doctor himself
"Orbiter is not a game" the math are realist and somes people take several days
before making their first successful launch in Orbit.

If your didn't tried it already try it now while waiting FsP it's free and it's amazing Wink

here the main site: http://www.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/~martins/orbit/orbit.html
here my site with my add-ons : http://orbiter.dansteph.com/ (don't miss the DGIII)

and somes screenshots that say it all:

Orbiter have thousands add-ons here an example:

And let's not forget the very best skin for Dan's DGIII. (you'd think it'd be included with the ship itself by now Wink )

And you can get it right here:

Free you forgot to mention the skin page were dozen of amazing authors have posted their skin Wink

Well, I covered the one that means the most to me. Smile
"steep learning curve"..............understatement,a fine freebie and a must for any flight simmers.havent played it for ages but going to get it
back out as ive just ordered a new telescope which ive always wanted...........happy days
